What's in your Bug Out Bag?

I am slowly putting my B.O.B. together and I was looking to see what you guys keep in yours. This is what I am working with so far:

3 day Tactical Assault Backpack
MRE's for 3 days for me and the wife
2 ea 3L Hydration packs ( Min. 1L per day each )
Water filtration kit
Wool Blanket
Extra socks and underwear
Gloves
Ponchos
SOG Seal pup knife and my old Ka-Bar
Signal Mirror
Whistle
Glow Sticks
Waterproof matches
Lighter
Flint and steel
Multi tool
First aid kit
Sewing kit
Compass
Maps
Tarp
Para cord
Shovel / hatchet combo

and some more misc. stuff I can't think of off the top of my head.

Do you guys have something similar put together?

 

That sounds like quite the BOB. I need to get on this. I have a good amount of backpacking/hiking/camping gear put together in a back pack that I consider my BOB but I definitely need to fine tune it. My buddy and I were talking about putting together some pre-packed BOBs and selling them but there's already some peeps doing that.

Extra magazines and ammo for you firearm?

 

Have you seen this? Food Insurance. It can get pretty damn expensive (like insanely expensive) but I really like the idea of it. I think it says somewhere on there that some of the foods are good up to 25 years . . don't quote me. Freeze dried or not it sure would be nice to know you've got a good food supply for awhile.

 

I was reading a thread like this over on xdtalk and have been making a list of what i need to get to make mine.

But Im gonna make a GHB (get home bag) as well since Its about a 20-30 min drive from home to work.

 

I looked into pre made bags, but it seemed like a lot of cheap shit. I like the idea of picking out quality products and building it myself. I am trying to figure out the best firearm to keep with the bag. I am leaning toward one of my shotguns simply because of their versatility. Good for defense, hunting, breaching a door, a lot of uses.

Although I do have a BOB filled with clothes, ammo and 1st aid, it's far from my idea of complete. I'm planning on staying put if I can. If SHTF then every other yahoo will be out and on the road too. So I'll stay put and ride it out if it's at all possible.

 

That's a good idea too. I am more worried about something going down where I have to evacuate and have no time to prep. Something to keep in the truck where all I have to do is grab the wife and get out of Dodge. They say 72 hours is the norm, but I want to be prepared for a little longer than that. Cash is important too. We all rely on our ATM cards too much. I think we all need a stash of cash just in case.

 

Thats my first choice. I have a staple at home that will suffice. Plus that is where the guns n ammo are. But if I had to evacuate, I wanted to be a little more prepared than the other knuckle heads out there.

 

x2 on the cash. I wanna keep about 50 bucks cash and a roll of quarters. every vending machine ever made takes quarters, not all take cash

If I have to bug out, cash is not going to help me.
I tell clients if you think SHTF, own and hold gold.
Cash can be helpful starting fires.

I have a vacuum packed kit for my elk hunting backpack.
Same stuff.
Keep me alive in the mountains for maybe 48hrs.
Water purification tablets and mylar sheets are probably most important.
Signaling and direction devices and knowing how to use them are pretty important.
Whistle and compass.
steel and magnesium firestarter.
powerbars.
two knives.
spare ammo for rifle and sidearm.
I carry water to drink but not enough for a survival scenario.
I drink a shitload of water when I'm hunting.
Spare quality wool socks and a fleece balaclava.
TP and first aid.
AA batteries and flashlight(everything I own exc cell phone runs on AA batteries. I have no use for something that demands specialty batteries)

 

Bullets and guns trump cash in a SHTF senario.

 

Lol. I have a buddy in AZ who has a / or some rifle(s) burried in the White Moutains at the SHTF go to spot. Your comment made me think of that for some reason.

I like your sig by the way Packer. Too funny and too true. People who didn't grow up in or haven't spent time in AZ just don't get it IMO.

 

+1 on the shotgun as the firearm of choice. I have my 1st shotgun I bought as a 14 year old for this purpose. It's a remington 20 gauge pump youth model with the short stock. Yes it's a little more cumbersome than a handgun, but the short barrel of the youth model and short stock make it the ideal gun to strap onto your back.

(I still sometimes carry it when hunting shotgun only in REALLY thick swamp or forest, it's just so damn easy to carry through brush)

 

You guys know something that you would like share? No offense here, really. I would like to know why all you guys are making a SHTF bag?

 

Nothing wrong with preparing for a bad situation. It doesn't mean you want something to happen. It just means if something did happen we'd be way more prepared than you.
