I deal with a lowly S8, which has a measly 12 megapixels.

 

That's not bad to start with. I guess it all depends on what onboard editor you have. I am only using the phone and stock editing software. Just because I wanted to show you can get decent photos without a dslr

 

I appreciate it. I used the Samsung Advanced Photo Editor on last weeks submission on Blue Hour.

So did you just sharpen these and true the color?

 

Not sure what all he did but they look a hell of alot better!

 

@JaCado pointed out what looks to be an owl on my mirror. The rocks do look like its perched on the mirror lol

 

I adjusted quite a few things on them.

First one:

Increased the contrast a touch, bumped the exposure and color temp up a bit. Dropped the highlights and shadows a good bit and upped the clarity on the first one.

Second one:

Upped the color balance, contrast, shadows and whites. Bumped the blacks down, upped the clarity, maxed the green out and dropped the blue a touch. I did a graduated filter from the lower right and took the color balance down a bit to get the rock white. Upped the contrast a tad more and upped the exposure a bit to bring the rock out.

 

Agreed! My camera broke on a trip to Germany a few years back, used my Galaxy s7 edge for almost all my pics, great shots!! But.... compared to my
5D, it's night and day, phone does work great if you're ok with 4x6 only when it comes to prints!!
Quality is a completely different subject, but with the phone, your eye can be as good as the guy with the DSLR, capturing thing, creativity, etc...

Maybe the shadows are too blue again?

 

Yup, still got that blue in the shadows going on. I think I may have taken it lower to the ground and closer to the truck. Get a little more depth in the photo. It looks a little flat like that. Vehicles are not a easy thing to photograph.

Look at the last one and then at the one earlier. See how you get a sense of depth in the photo? That's what you want with vehicles.

 

Yeah it's hard to keep the blue of the paint looking the way it should while also dropping the blue in the shadows. Maybe I'll have to do a "laso" and adjust just the ground.

 

There you go. You have to isolate it from the rest. That's what I did with the graduated filter to isolate the area I wanted to adjust.

Also add a little contrast to it.

 

Maxed out the green in this one and still couldn't get it to pop.
