I want to take my supercharged 3.4 tacoma out to a remote area in oregon but the closest premium gas is an hour and a half away. While I'm out there I will likely go through 2-3 tanks while exploring.

Is there any way that I can fill up on 87 and use enough octane booster to be okay?

Yes. Just stay out of boost.

Some spare gas cans are probably a good idea. Or you could try wedging the bypass valve open to lower the boost. Otherwise it might be difficult to stay out of boost if you need to stab the throttle to climb an obstacle.

You can try to stay out of boost but that's not always easy to do especially if you're loaded down with weight and have a lot of hills to climb.

If premium gas is really that hard to find, I would suggest getting some octane boosters (the real kind, not the overpriced watered down stuff that most gas stations sell).

Stuff like Torco you can buy online and boost your octane with

After doing a little bit more research, I found out about the real kind of octane booster you linked up. I went ahead and ordered some https://boostane.com/?_vsrefdom=adw...igHB4m2nGVLWvOMZ3GXYumehH-h3AmexoCgc8QAvD_BwE

Thanks for chiming in though @eon_blue

Ya there's a few legit brands, most of which are hard to find in stores cause most of what the stores sell barely has any octane in it at all. But the good stuff is worth it

Great advice. For anyone boosted, seems like something good to keep in the truck in case you ever find yourself needing it

I recently learned buy the best gas possible. I used grocery store premium and it was a problem. Even with my meth injection going. Top tier only for me.

Ya I'll never use anything but top tier if I can help it. I know some people think it's a scam or whatever but I think it's worth it. Its regulated by specific standards which gives me a little peace of mind over buying cheap gas at a non top tier station. We have Arco stations here in CA that are always way cheaper than most others and they became Top Tier a few years ago. I always get gas there

Agree. I'm on a 93 octane tune. ECU has fits with lesser gas. The extra pennies are really worth it for hp.

It's all about the additives and detergents, and no, the Top Tier rating is not a scam.

The reason "discount" gasoline is cheap stems from the lack of an additive package to meet Top Tier specifications. They will make a difference, both immediate and long term. Discount gas meets the bare minimum to pass QC from the refinery to be released. Think that's good enough for your engine? That's up to you, but as someone who works with finished fuels, I'll pay a few cents more and use Top Tier fuels.

Yeah that's why I won't get gas anywhere but Arco, it's nice to have a Top Tier rated chain that's more affordable than Chevron and Shell...which are on average over $4.20 a gallon here in CA for 91. At Arco I get can 91 Top Tier for ~3.80

Costco is top tier and affordable too, but they aren't as easy to find.

That's a hell of a delta. Is it a corporate or franchise store?

@Biscuits, is that true that Costco is top tier? I may get a Costco card again if that's the case.

You know I'm not sure...they're everywhere in CA but I haven't seen them in other states yet.

They charge a 35 cent flat fee for debit card use and people complain but it's still cheaper than paying the higher per gallon price at most other stations

Apparently they are according to the Top Tier website. Be aware, it's also location dependant.

You'd have to call the location or look for the Top Tier sticker at the pump or little service kiosk.
