5100s.. asking for a friend!

Hey guys! I want some advise on a suspension set up. I am moving from Austin Texas to Boise Idaho(where Im from). I drive a 2018 trd off road. I am looking to get a suspension set up that will facilitate moderate off roading. I dont plan on going over any VW size boulders by any means. Just camping up in the hills or out in the desert. I bought some 265/75/16 wrangler ultra terrains and ordered front 5100s. I was planning on raising them to 1.75. In a perfect world Id just order a complete kit online but due to funds(Im a broke ass paramedic) and saving to move I need to get the most bang for my buck that can get the job done!!!

So my question. Would raising the front with the 5100s/stock coil do decent or would it be a waste and I should just match it with the 885 ome.

Secondly IF i do the 885 is AAL the best route or are yall doing blocks on the back?

Same! im thinking stock coils on 5100s set at 1.75 will be perfect for me.

 

Get Dakar leaf packs. Can also remove overload leaf to adjust ride height.

I had my 2015 set at 1.75 with stock coils then bumped them up to 2.5 with stock coils. No problems here and I have done 3 others this way for others. My "off-road" adventures are very light and slow and I do not have extended travel needs. Personally I think my truck rides great. I have had mine set at 2.5 for 47,000 miles now. I ran at 1.75 with no lift in the rear on stock wheels and tires with 1.25" Spidertrax spacers for a very short while then switched to 2.5" front and a 1" block rear once I got 265 70 r17 on a 17x9 -12 wheel and ditched the spacers. Personally I love it and have had zero problems.

 

Lift with spring rate appropriate for the situation, dampen with correct dampers for the chosen spring rate.

Lifting by using preload generated from perch settings is better than just spacers, but still not great.

But before you lift, why not use the truck enough in your new enviroment to see if its needed. Often a tire quality upgrade and driver skill is all thats needed.

You can save $ and avoid issues that from a lift that create a lot of posts here.

I absolutely agree with you. I would at least like to level the front, I think it looks a little funny with the new tires at stock height. I have definitely considered staying near stock for the first year or so to see what the capabilities are and the potential short comings.

I installed rears....paid 2 hr shop labor for fronts.....$160

5100's were $340 from Headstrong all four

my offroad ride is Teryx in my aviator

 

Nice set up, you running 265s or 285s, those tires look good

 

265's.........SL........these are gone end of the November.....sold 'em.......wheels too.....

may be trying the new Goodyear Ultras.........or Cooper Maxx.......or just the Falkin WP3

How is the ride quality of the 5100s on the 3rd notch?

 

Getting ready to order 5100s. I am finding 2 different part numbers for them tho. Wheelers off road has a $48 option for the 5100s but it says they can’t see any difference.

I agree. I have 265/75/16 at stock height and I think it looks crowded.

 

On my 2nd gen it rides "firm" but I don't think it is harsh by any means. I like it a lot. Tire selection seems to matter more than anything for street ride on vehicles I have owned. I am on P rated General AT2s

 

Man yall are great! Thank you for the responses. So looks like there are 5 settings on the 3rd gen 5100s. Would the 1.1(3rd) or the 1.55(4th) be level? Id like to get close to level without getting the bro lean.

 

truck rides great........but the current Coopers are SL rated.....

soon to change to E rated sumthing........
