What do do with my brand new Tacoma 2wd?

Great site!
I just bought a brand new 2010 Tacoma 2WD, 4spd Auto, 4 Cyl.

It's a fleet model so not much extra came with it.
A couple things I want to add after market and wanted some opinions.

Camper Shell - I've looked at a few and I don't really see much difference between the brands available to me. Anyone have a strong opinion one way or the other? Else I go cheap which looks like the SnugTop and the Leer are both about the same in the 800.00 dollar range.

Roof Racks - Thule seems good. Anyone say no?

Cow Pusher - If I rear end someone I want my car to survive. Needed? Not needed?

That spray stuff that goes on the rocker boards - Like spray on bed liner but for the bottom half of the car. Good idea? Bad idea? Waste of money?

Bra or bug protector - ?

Back up camera or beeper
Alarm
Cruise control
Sunroof

Lift - Any benefit to raising this thing a few inches? I'm not going to be doing any off road 4x4 (cuz im a 2x4) type driving but I do drive on gravel/dirt roads.

Welcome to TW and congrats on the truck!

Many people have had issues with the bug protectors scuffing the hood so I would scratch that off the list.

Do you like to play in the desert(higher speeds)?

First, thing I would recommend, is see if you need to do any of the TSB's out there for the 2010. Second, maybe some Bilstein 5100 adjustable struts for that minor lift that you would like, since they are good for .85 to over 2 inches in front end lift (you can add a aal for the rear) if you need it.

Believe it or not - Yes. Or limit to a small budget. I just think for the amount of money that folks (my self included) sink in to some of these things and the way they use their trucks - 9 times out of ten, the money spent on a truck is wasted money. Just my opinion. I like doing what I do in my truck but it is the worst 'investment' I have ever made.

 

I understand what you are saying. Financially it's not the smartest but it's all fun. I say keep the stock parts and when/if you are ready to sell return it to stock and sell the parts. A lot of the money can be recouped that way. Just my 2 cents.

 

From his description it looks like he has a 5-lugger, I recommend he looks at neslerrah truck for ideas.

Edit: I should go in to consulting new owners of Tacomas! I could save them 10's of thousands of dollars!

 

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. Day 2 of my new car and I am still just as stoked!!!

I've decided against pretty much everything... No bug protector, sun roof, cow pusher. No to the rocker protector stuff. No to the racks (for now). No to the Cruise Control.

I will lift it just a smidge but I will wait until my stock tires wear out.

Camper Shell and Stereo are my first two priorities.
Back up Camera/beeper are next.
Then I might replace the front bumper with something a little stronger.

Oh one more thing. These stock bench seats kinda suck. Fine for an hour or so but after 2 hours or more my back get a little whacked. Any suggestions for replacing these with either a split bench or a couple bucket seats?
