Think I’m gonna drive the 5 hours home tonight just to hunt on Sunday.

    Smart? Probably not

    Worth it? Maybe

You can't just throw a blanket statement out that you should shoot more does than bucks or visa versa.... You need 2-3 does per buck for a healthy population (and deer should be harvested more or less accordingly based on that once that ratio is achieved) a buck will most likely only bread with 2 does in a season so many more than that leads to unbread does just eating food that would go towards deer that are helping the heard otherwise. On the other hand, obviously if you have less does than you wont have optimal breading situations and your herd won't grow. Its just like pruning a plant, the more you cut the better your fruit will be because the available nutrients are divided by a lower number of producers, however your overall yield will be lower.

Shooting a nice mature bucks with proper herd management should mean that there are at least 3 years worth of those genes to carry on, and with 2 does bread per year averaging 2 yearlong you should have a minimum of 12 offspring to carry on.

Culling bad genes young obviously helps bad genes stay out of the heard, although you most likely wont be able to tell a cull until its at least 2 1/2 so there is a good chance there will be atleast 4 deer with those genes running around best case scenario.

TLDR: Management cannot fit in a box and each situation needs to be assessed individually.

And once again I’ll say, I honestly don’t give a single care.

Really as long as the lions have something to eat, I’m happy,

This year's archery bull, not a monster but has some cool character. Hunting solo, but was only about 1.5 miles away from the nearest open road and took 5 trips because of the terrain.
