lol, not on the air box...on the lower part of the snorkel head. That's where other brands (ARB notably) have little drain holes for water to escape when it's pouring rain out.

Or maybe just mount a little umbrella that sticks out over the top of the air inlet

Funny you pointed that out. I saw that but didn’t think much of it since all my other filters have some short of bugs in them as well :) I also did see a bug on the prefilter head too.

Edit: I just realized this same picture was already posted on page 5.

I have often thought about rain getting into snorkel heads. I did some research and this picture gives a pretty good explanation of how the head is designed to separate water. Plus I have never heard of anyone with a snorkel having engine failure or anything like that from too much rain. And I think if it were actually a problem then companies like ARB and Toyota would not be selling them.

Also I wish I never found this thread because I was perfectly ok with not spending $400 on a snorkel... but only a $100... I hope they get more soon!

How many #EAF points is an overland sticker worth? I might have to fire up the vinyl cutter later :luvya:

That's just it though, these eBay snorkels don't have drain slots or holes for the water to escape. At least mine doesn't. In that photo posted above with the 1st gen and the ARB snorkel head facing backward, you can clearly see the drain slots on it...ours don't have that.

edit: looking closely at mine, you can see the indentations just like ARB's where the slots are 'supposed' to be, but they aren't there...nothing a drill can't fix. I just don't know if I want to be the first to do it, lol

So I finally got my snorkel hooked up using an air intake duct that was donated to me by another member on here (he has a CAI and didn't need it)...my snorkel is finally functional and I got to use it to romp around in some sand dunes on the beach this weekend (Pismo OHV park here in CA). Snorkel worked like a charm, but I was mostly concerned with how it would perform on the 200mile highway trip home since I have the TRD supercharger and there's been some concern how this snorkel would work in combination with it.

Honestly I didn't notice any difference in the truck's performance under boost...if anything it may have even been a little better (my truck tends to lean out fairly easily under WOT under certain conditions). It seemed like any lean symptoms I normally would have experienced ended up not being there, so I'm happy. More time is needed though to know for sure but it seems these snorkels do work well with the supercharger.

I'm running a stock blower setup with the URD 7th injector (stock pulley size)...I can't speak on how it works with the smaller pulley setup.

I love the end when the guy asks him how to clean it. "Well you know.... you just pull if off and tsk tsk. Give her a little wash"

lol cooking oil? That's gotta be as bad or worse for your MAF sensor than using an oiled K&N filter...maybe their trucks don't have MAFs like our's do though.

Doubt it actually makes it to the MAF. Probably gets caught in the snorkel or factory air filter before it could reach the MAF. And would you rather have a MAF that needs to be cleaned or a dusted engine?

I would rather use a lighter oil than cooking oil personally but it probably is better than putting it in the air filter that's just before the sensor like those K&Ns do. I wouldn't want that getting built up in the snorkel either but wouldn't be the end of the world...sort of a pain to unbolt the thing from the fender to clean. Although you could probably tie a few rags to a pole and clean it out that way I guess
