So it disperses any pollution over a greater area = less concentration. Probably the height needed to conform with a regulation. Hard to believe there was much regulation back when it was built in 1918 lol

You won't have to switch until the kid is about 8 or so. Maybe longer if they inherit your imposing physique. Ext cab works until then.

At that point, a 4Runner is perfect...or at least that's my idea, right? :D

And hey, by then...orange truck wont be new either...

I've seen two trucks stuff a 1gr in a 1st Gen. So it's very doable. Just not cost effective.

Eh. By then you'll just get a 2nd gen to beat on. They are already very cheap to pick up. Can find them under 20k easily. That's what I'd do. I don't think I'd go for the trail limo though. The short bed is not as big a downside as you'd think. I still have found it an advantage the more I use one.

Probably what I'll end up doing eventually as those are also much easier to modify suspension wise to make a very capable all around rig.

Isn't the 3rd gen pretty similar from that regard? I think what you're experiencing is best-gen bias. You're going to have to get over that eventually unless you build a Monte-sized fleet of first gens that you can use for parts 40 years from now.

2nd gens are indeed getting cheap, almost cheaper than 1st gens, and have a much better aftermarket support. I'm happy with my rig right now, but wouldn't be opposed to building a 2nd gen. It's too bad the 6 speed sucks though.

That being said Ben, you should build a DCLB 1st gen. Tim's is pretty sweet having seen it in person. Everyone needs a DCLB, supercharged, 5 speed, 1st gen.

If your capable of doing the work yourself, it's probably not as bad as it may seem.

Trick is finding a good deal on a wrecked double cab with a salvageable cab. When you're done, you can sell your old cab, and all the left over parts from the double cab.

That's fair. I've always liked them.

    That's my plan haha

3rd gen is the exact same chassis.

She better get over that..haha unless you have kids I guess. That'll clean up your hobbies in a hurry.

For a rig I don't want a super nice interior. Then I would care to much about getting it dirty. You can make the 1s or 2md gen cab planey comfortable.

They are getting cheap. 1st gen double cabs are sometimes more expensive than 2nd gens...granted they out sold the 1st gens hugely.

I'd be okay with the auto in a 2nd gen. It is a much better tranny than ours. I don't like the 6spd either..a lot of cooler mods for 2nd gens though.

I don't think I'd love the longer wheel base.

No shit. I want a damaged cab just to rebuild with Frank's parts..found a perfect one on CL. Was a limited bright red one. Would have matched the frv lol front end damage was all it had. Listed for 2500...sold for 3500 in a day..

I'm with you Ben. The interior, how nice/comfortable it is inside, and the extra safety features are what made me go to a 3rd gen over 2nd gen. Plus if I plan to keep this thing for a long time I want something that should hopefully be a priority in the aftermarket community for quite a while.

Yeah, that doesn't surprise me. I have to be careful with how fast I go with the RTT on the back. Bottoms out very easily. Trying to decide the best method to combat it without buying suspnsion parts that I don't plan to keep.

You say that now..but it will change it a lot. At least in terms of mods and dreaming of doing highly modified trucks.

Won't change a thing for getting outside. Just make it better I think. Will change how you do it to a point

Mud is not always avoidable. Be nice if it was.

I'll pass on the electronic crap. Chances are in 10 years and 100k more half that shit will be not working right anyways.

    For a rig..it's unnecessary.

It seems like most people either love or hate the extra electronic features. Luckily you can turn pretty much everything off if you desire. As far as the equipment failing 100k miles down the road, time will tell. All vehicles are heading down this path, and generally the features in the Tacoma have been around for a quite bit now. They're just finally trickling down to non-luxury vehicles. In my mind it's probably the same growing pains as any new feature that comes out and isn't needed that's now in just about all vehicles, like basic cruise control.

Time will indeed tell. Hopefully it all works out.

    I'm sure haha

Toyota in the 80s and 90s though are very different from Toyota today. I guess that's my concern with the parts QC. No way to know till later
