Question for you guys about the transmission hunting gears...
ive seen discussion about stumble on take off, but i dont recall seeing the issue i am having.

when i am going about 70-75 using cruise control on a fairly flat surface sometimes it will drop from 6th to 5th and not go back to 6th by itself. occasionally if there is a small incline it drops to 4th and stays there for a while. i press the gas and it will end up shifting to 5th then 6th then ride in 6th for a while and the cycle will end up repeating.

I havent seen this on a TSB specifically. anyone experience this?

Does the truck maintain the speed set on Cruise control? If so, the computer is mapping for max fuel efficiency, there may be something that is making it determine 5th is better than 6th.

driving 70-75 in 4th for extended amounts of time when it really should shift back to 5th or 6th.

yes, it holds that speed. if it were into fairly strong head wind, or up hill, i get it, but just pretty flat... low wind.

If its holding the speed then let it do its thing. By you pressing the gas you are interrupting the computing cycle and throwing the current mapping out of line. 5th and 6th are both overdrive gears, so when it drops let it drop.

To get to, and stay in 6th you must mentally will your Tacoma to be in 6th. Weak minds will only achieve 5th gear.

This describes my drive to work everyday, even after the TSB which did help a lot but not enough. Probably my E rated KO's aren't helping. 285's.

Just shift into "ECT" and "S5" and never look back. I have found that it doesn't affect your mileage all that much compared to driving in "D" like normal people do.

Do the TSB and if it comes back or doesn't solve anything look into the Shiftsense.

I guess some people dont like it when their automatic transmission shifts automatically.

How is the truck supposed to know what gear you want it in as long as it maintains speed in cruise control?

It's a 6 speed with double overdrive, not many vehicles have that so it drives a bit different than the rest.
