Thanks Jaime. I feel like the the 103N with the 15mm nipple shouldn't be a big a deal but I am not sure I want to take the chance. I am just going to order the 103S and buy the barbed adapter. I don't think it comes with it.

I also want to switch out my plastic oil filter housing for a metal one. I'm still having a hard time wrapping my head around that. I suppose this is just someones idea of saving the planet or something. Whatever.

 

Randall. Are you sure the 103S version comes with the little plastic adapter? It has it's own part number SH-10.

My Canyon has a plastic housing ang cartrige type oil filter. It feels so odd when removing it

Yea, I have been changing the oil in vehicles since at least 1977 when I started driving and never have I encountered a removable cartridge type filter. And apparently there is a drain port in the housing on this thing too? WTH!? Do I need 2 Fumoto valves? My head is spinning.

Soon I will give up and just go to Jiffy Lube.

Yea I saw the hose kit but I have leftover hose from when I did my rear differential breather mod. Otherwise I would get that and pay the extra 5 bucks.

I checked Ebay and that adapter is the same price there so I might as well just order it from Amazon.

 

Then I could do the Dorkle mod too.

 

What wrong with the dorkel mod?

 

Nothing at all, but I thought the Dorkle was the one from the air box straight to the cowl ? I am so confused. As usual.

Yea, it's anywhere from $5 to $10 depending where you look. I'm gonna stop being cheap and just order it from Amazon. Like I said, I am doing my own maintenance now anyway. I do have an electric oil extraction pump though if I really wanted to be lazy. It just takes forever. I just need to find a decent metal oil filter canister and then the cartridges.

At least the Fumoto valve comes with the little protector clip.

 

What filter does your use. might find an adapter n run a remote filrer. As long as you dont mind using a CAT filter.

 

This is my first Tacoma John, so it's all new to me. All I know is Toyota uses a spin off cartridge type filter housing that is plastic. The mod for this is to switch to the metal version for durability.

I have not begun to do my research yet on here to search for threads on the subject. I believe though, there is a drain in the canister that your remove first to drain the oil from the filter before removing it. Again, this is not what I am use to. I know there are oil filter relocate kits for vehicles. I will have to check to see if there is anything fro the Tacoma.

 

Ok will take those info n plug them into my computer at work see if we ca retro fit an adapter on there. Looks like same set up we are converting on forklifts. If you would like to use a standard filter.

 

I was reading some posts and it seems (not sure how valid this is) that there is a concern mounting the filter anywhere above the original location as it might put more strain on the pump than it can handle. Sounds like BS to me but I am not an expert in any of this.

I know when I had my Cummins (2006 3/4 ton) running duals up near the master cylinder was very common. I don't even know where the oil filter is located on the 3rd Gen Tacoma. Hell, I have had my Lexus for 2 years and have only had the hood open once, and that was to check to see if a hybrid engine looked like. Now don't get me wrong. I can perform basic maintenance on any of my vehicles. I did three frame off restorations of a 1982 Harley I used to own and I performed the maintenance on that Dodge. That was $400 for the dealer to do or $200 for me to do including the rear diff fluid every 15k miles.

If this deal with the tube steps I'm selling goes down I am ordering a front skid from Mobtown. That should make things a little easier for sure. But hell, if we could make even more simple then I am interested. I would rather run a simple old school filter any day. If I'm overthinking all of this and a skid makes life easier then that's the route I'll take.
