The window has never been 10 years, always been 12 years. They recently added a provision for some older vehicles that fell outside the 12 years to qualify for another bit of time. If you've got a couple of years to go on your 12 years, consider checking it out seriously at that time. Yes, it's a PITA to be without your truck for a couple months, but hey, a new frame ain't nothing. Might not be that big a deal for you down in MD, but up here in NH... very big deal!

Yeah, I wasn't sure about the 10 years but some reason I had that number in my head. My in service date was mid November 2008 so I have 2 more years. I will definitely check it out then... if I still have the truck.

I hear ya. I spent a couple winters up that way (Conn and RI) back in the day. We get snow and salt here in MD but every winter is different, some bad, some not. I usually rinse my frame a couple times each winter. Almost wish I hadn't been doing that now.

CRC Coating is very temporary, and you should be wary of its application if you are very deep into the inspection timeframe. My 2005 had been inspected in 2015, passed with the coating applied. I had it parked for most of the following winter. Early 2017, all of the coating was coming off and the rusting was worse than ever. Mind you, I live in MN and rarely drove it in winter. I had originally acquired the truck in June of 2008, with date of first use Feb 2005. In fall of 2017 truck went into a different trusted dealer. Frame failed and all was replaced - got back about a year ago and all is well. Beware of the CRC coAting on a horribly rusted frame - not a good idea.

Where are you? The spray deal is only applicable in 'cold weather states' - there's a list around somewhere.

I had the same experience and complained about extensive delamination under the bed. Having it inspected Decemeber 12.

I just had my '08 inspected on Monday. It failed and a new frame is on order. They let me keep the truck until the frame is on site. The service manager said they'd use any replacement parts (leaf springs, shocks, etc) I'd want to supply (or order through them). I've got 163k on it and everything is original. Any suggestions for what I should consider replacing? MFRs?

I have an '07 with 308,000 miles. I took it in for a 'noise' and they said you can't have it back
until we fix the frame. That was 2 months ago, still waiting for frame and parts. I've put 6,000
miles on the rental. I asked if they wanted me to bring it in for maintenance - it's a brand new
Camry. They said no - that rather amazes me.

I had the frame spray coated 2 or 3 years ago and now I get the 2nd option.

There were few objectors to the Class Action Law Suit, a tiny percentage - I objected to the CRC usage and the inspection criteria, as frames can be on the verge of failure due to significant thinning and delamination, but not technically fail. I also found that two of three dealerships in the Twin Cities difficult to work with - later finding out they are owned by the same outfit. Burnsville Toyota will treat you fairly in MN, and that’s who did my frame last year. Just sayin’.

Thanks @fixnfly . Think I should just replace the stock bilstiens? As much as I’d like to do more off-roading, forest roads are about the worst this thing sees. It’s mostly a road-trip and daily-driver vehicle.

I put 5100 Bilsteins back on front and back - don’t notice much change but I don’t push it hard.

Just got an appointment with western slope Toyota here in grand junction for them to swap my leaf springs(recall). Do I just tell them to inspect the frame while it’s there? Do I get documentation of the inspection?

Mine went in yesterday for saftey recall on leafs and seat belts. Also got a notice for frame recall inspection. After inspection I was told my frame quilifies and it’s two months till the dealer gets one. Sad I’m going to be without my truck. My truck is an 05’ V6 4x4 base extended cab with 180k miles. I hear nightmares about dealerships trying to get you to pay for parts that need replacing to performe the frame swap. I really hope my dealership does me rite. Also I’m needing a truck for work. Haven’t gone to the dealer yet since notification of needing the recall. I’ll keep everyone informed.

Consider new real leaf springs also. The new factory springs they offer really suck. They are flat even when new. Wheelr's has a nice heavy duty 4 leaf pack.

My dealership got my new frame in and said it should be done by next week. I dropped it off on October 24th so its been 6 weeks, they estimated 60 days just to get the frame in so I guess its ahead of schedule. I called them about putting on some new shocks while it was taken apart and the service tech said he'll call me back with recommendations on stuff they find, cant wait to hear the list on a 165k mile truck

I just had mine done here in Colorado. I had them put 5100's front and back, new power steering gear and hoses, and new needle bearing. Drives like a new truck. 07 DCB 175K miles.

I'm wondering too at what point it might be cheaper for Toyota to just buy the truck back versus do the frame swap on some of them..

Tell me about it. Ive read a couple figures on what it costs for toyota to do the repair, one was 12k another was 15k. I dont know what it really costs them. Either way my 2005 isnt worth either of those numbers. Even my wife said "why dont they just give you money towards something else instead of doing all that to your old ass truck?" lol.

You would think this as well, to get people to retire their old ones and into a 3rd gen. This would at least spike a few sales.

A little off topic but a few years ago I was in an accident where I rolled an 05’ tacoma. The truck was fine except the top of the cab was damaged in one corner and the bed was pretty messed up. Frame was straight I was told by insurance. Insurance estimated a cab swap to cost 15k or more so my truck was totaled out.
I’m loving that Toyota has stepped up to swap my frame out but I too think that Toyota is actually just getting their money back that they had to put in escro for the class action suit. If they gave the customer the money for the new vehicle a percentage of them may buy other vehicles than Toyota. This keeps the money at the Toyota dealer in services costs then you get your truck back and still trade it in on another tacoma. Win win for them. I’m personally kinda stuck with mine bc I bought it a year ago not knowing so I owe on mine still.
