Its out for dongle users, but you need to be on the latest TSB to run it.

I believe Mat is still working on it with the feedback/logs from the Dongle guys.

So I’ve stayed away from both OV tune threads. I expected to see more manual reviews now 1.05 has been out for a while.
    Did I miss something?

It’s only out for dongle users who are on 04b13 so there’s not a lot running it yet

    After 600 miles on 1.05 93MA, I honestly can’t tell a difference between it and 1.04. Maybe it’s because I’m on 35’s and 4.88’s, I don’t know.

Mother of God! Why has no one recommended 1.05 93 FO yet?

Was running 93MA for 600 miles, loaded 93FO and took her for a spin, and this truck drives like it should have from the get go.

Can anyone explain the different versions of this tune that are available or point me in the right direction towards an explanation? I understand that there are 87 and 91 octane tunes, but what are the pros/cons of full otto vs MA? I am mostly interested in better low end torque, and at this point I would probably prefer to continue running 87, but I am open to 91 as well. Thanks.

In general, the latest tune available for everyone would be 1.04/1.04R (depending on what ECU version you are on). The caveat to this is 1.05, which is still largely in development but a pre-release made it available to 6MT owners who were on the latest ECU versions and possess the dongle for tuning (was later replaced by fully dongle-less software; the dongle is our licensing to use the software for those of us who have been hanging around here for a bit).

87 vs 91 vs 93. To begin, the only 93 octane tunes available so far are with 1.05, and if I'm not mistaken, only with the FO variant but I could be wrong. As a general oversimplification, 87 octane maps focus on drivability and do not add power or torque, but they do allocate more power and torque to other parts of the powerband, most notably down low. This is in addition to other changes that overall come together to enhance your driving experience. 91 maps take this a step further and add power overall. As you can imagine, the 93 map(s) do this as well.

FO is not strictly accurate according to Mat. The Full Otto maps still have Atkinson mode enabled in limited circumstances if I remember correctly, but FO provides less confusion than MO, I expect. I think MA (Modified Atkinson) is just what the regular 1.05 map would be, but giving it a label just helps quickly differentiate it from the FO variant when discussing it.

The MA maps have a greater focus on gas mileage if I'm not mistaken, whereas the FO provides a lot more low end grunt.

The FO map(s) should also see a decrease in fuel economy but.....your experience may vary. I for one have actually seen an increase in fuel economy, and a substantial one at that. On 1.04R 91, I averaged about 15mpg and on then initially on 1.05 FO 91, I maintained 15.5-15.8, and I am currently towards the bottom of a tank of fuel and averaging 17.2mpg so far, and this is with a decent chunk of fuel being used off road. I can only imagine that the MA maps are amplifying this.

Hope this has helped you out somewhat. @MOC221_ and @Shellshock and @RedBeard1 and others may have something to add, they're the smart ones

Thanks for the reply, are there both MA and FO versions for 87, or is FO only available for higher octane? Also 1.04 vs 1.04r, is the difference only regarding tsb's for automatic trucks? I haven't had any tsb done on my truck would it be beneficial to have it done if there is even one out for 6MT trucks?

FO for 91 and 93. MA for 87 and 91, idk about 93

1.04 is for pre-TSB ECUs. 1.04R for post-TSB ECUs. This applies to both 6MT and 6AT.

As for benefit, yes I'd say so. I enjoyed the OEM TSB tune. For a stock tune, it was quite good and how the truck should have been from the beginning. If you're wanting to try it out, go for it. Really it's up to you.

So is there any reason to go get the tsb to run 1.04r versus not getting the tsb and running 1.04?

1.04R had a couple improvements implemented over 1.04 but it's really up to you. You could order the tune and run 1.04 when you get set up, or you could order and run the new TSB and benefit from that upgrade while waiting on your tune, and then flash 1.04R or 1.05 if it's out by then (since you'd be dongle-less).

It will largely come down to how much you hate your current OEM tune and how desperate you are for any sort of change/upgrade or to fix issues you may have with it.

Just a quick update, I have been running the 1.05 FO 91 since it came out. I finally got around to putting a "resonator" in my exhaust system today. I had been running the flow master dual outlet catback system with the URD cat delete y pipe. I noticed a considerable drop in low end power when I installed the y pipe along with an increase in drone. I installed an 18" 2 1/2" resonator/glasspack in front of the muffler and holly balls the power down low is back with a vengeance and the drone is almost non existent:burnrubber: I wonder if Mat can calculate HP/torque from data logs?

Glasspack I installed has this design.
