Is it as good as they say out there?

Trying to convince the significant other to move out there. She can work anywhere and we have a facility out in Ferndale like twenty minutes away

Galbraith has some good trails, but its like a REALLY big town park basically. I though Pisgah was a much more worthy "bike mecca". Galby has the benefit of you being able to sneak in some lunch laps that Pisgah doesn't lend itself to.

Just south in Marysville/Everett is basically home for me, but I'd recommend coming out to visit Snohomish and Whatcom county before you commit to something out here. The area, weather, and overall vibe isn't for everyone.

I’ll try looking through this long thread but any recommendations for hitch racks that allow you to open the tailgate? I just need to carry 2 bikes..

Galbraith was good we were out there this last summer and had a great time, Mullet was fun I do it again next time we go up.

Wife hit Black Diamond this morning and took the Taco, I laughed because her Outback was purchased for MTB'ing and we put the hitch and Kuat on it just for that! I woke this morning to see her leaving the driveway with the Kuat on the back of the Taco and her bike attached to it, she really likes the new truck.

Deep-Taco, I will check when she gets back but I believe with the Kuat down the tailgate will open just fine.

1Up is the default choice for hitch racks that allow tailgate down when empty. And at least with our two bikes, we can lower the tailgate fully with the rack loaded but tilted down.

Yakima Dr. Tray 2. I love it, and it also tilts down when loaded so the tailgate can be dropped. It's super light, if that matters to you. Like 32 lbs if memory serves.

I had a kuat from my car it didn't allow the tailgate to open without hitting, my son didn't realize how heavy hsi hockey bag was so I now have a dent where it contacted the tailgate, sold it and bought a 1up it clears perfectly

    None yet, here to learn
Hey - can you tell me how you went about this? I need to buy a tonneau cover for my Tacoma and want to put Yakima racks over it. The only one that I've found where I know it'll work is the Truck Covers USA American cover on which they'll pre-install the Yakima rails. But now I'm seeing the rails on yours and wondering if you installed them yourself or if there's another company that includes the Yakima rails with the Tonneau? Thanks!

You can do the same with a 1-Up rack.

FWIW, The single tray 1up clears the tailgate w/o tilting it when unloaded.

I don't consider "clearing" if you have to tilt it down...
Yakima Dr. Tray, and 1Up clear with no issues. The Dr. Tray is more adjustable (can move the trays side-to-side and back-to-front) which can make loading a variety of bikes easier. The 1Up is super quality but more expensive, and has more ground clearance.
Black friday deals galore on Doc Trays right now with up to 20% off...

For what it's worth, I have the Doc Tray and love it. Stable (expanding wedge), light (makes taking it on/off easy), secure (has cable locks and integrated hitch lock), looks good. However, I'm going to sell it and get the 1Up. It's a better rack, allows for off road driving to some out-there spots, lasts a lifetime.

My bad on the definition of "clearing" here in this forum. Noted.
