The first thing I would do is either ( or both) ..

    1. Pay off all your credit card bills so you have a zero balance

    2. Apply to have your credit limit increased

Its all good. I think I have convinced by friend with a 2nd gen to finally cut his. We have it on an OME 3" lift, front has sagged some since that has been on a while and he has a steel bumper with winch and steel acable on a DCSB, and he just did a 1" body lift. I think 36s would be a perfect fit, 35s for sure.

The body mount is the limiting factor. I have cut mine back as much as possible and i still rub in reverse at full lock and stuff. My OME 3'' lift with 886 coils sagged too after I added the bumper and winch I added 3/8'' top spacers to put me back up a little

He will be happy if he does it

    Working on them
First Just Drive that Taco for a bit and just enjoy it as it is then let the mods begin guided by what you want to personalize the truck with to make it yours then by what you need to have to help do what you are actually doing with the truck like a good set of tires to start going off road running with and start to get a taste of what that truck can really do.... If you fall into the "I want it because they have it" route that can get really expensive very fast for a lot of stuff you just may not need yet if ever need it at all.

First, welcome to TW! I hope you enjoy your Tacoma. The first serious mod I'm looking at but have not pulled the trigger on is a new front skid plate.

When I was young, (40 years ago?) I did some Pennsylvania 4 wheeling and that Front skid plate came in handy. The one the 2018 Offroad version comes with seems VERY flimsy.

    I'm considering
Toyota PTR60-35160 TRD Pro Front Skid Plate , any other ideas on skid plate?

You can do a lot with a stock Tacoma. I would get a deflator tool for your tires and a little plug in air pump to reinflate and use it stock with just aired down tires to start.
