3" Bilstein 5100/Toytec AAL Suspension lift Guide

Thank you gents/ladies for my noobness and non-mechanically inclined self.

 

Check these out. They are designed to provide 2.75" of lift with about 600lbs of bed weight Keep in mind that you will need the "heavy duty" pack.

 

Bring an unlifted truck to 42001 and we can knock the front out in less than 20 mins.

To go from 0 to 3” of lift I personally would loosen the LCA bolts. Not too loose though.

I am not sure we have the same definition of easy lol. Never would it be easier to separate control arms from knuckles than it would be for the sway bar to come off.

Don’t take my criticism as rude please. I want more people giving more money to more companies for better products and prices. I just think you make it seem a little ominous for the first timer is all.

 

There are many ways to skin a pig, it took me 5 min to separate the UCA from the knuckle to move the sway bar so I didn't see it as an issue. As for being ominous, I didn't mean to make it seem so, but I've gone out to help friends who thought they could do it but either ended up at a dead end and stranded with no working car, or breaking something and left (surprise again) stranded. I guess I mean to say is that you should know what you're getting into is all

 

Definitely bookmarking this one, I gotta lift my 2013 TX Pro at some point. Side note, I'll be on the big Island this September for a week! Any fun trips for a rented jeep? I'm bringing my DSLR and a few lenses so I'm planning to hit the observatory for some astro shots at some point.

Yeah I got you. I lean towards oversimplification. For example, I have always been afraid of bleeding brakes. Turns out it’s literally a 10 minute deal and easy as pie with a bleeder.

However, it kept me from getting SS lines for a long time.

Solid write up none the less. If anyone feels like this method is too much for them they’ll either pay or start learning regardless.

 

I feel you on that. And no heat to anyone who would rather pay, but I feel as though simple things like this is just a no brainer to do for yourself lmao. I have buds who still spend 2+ hours to take their car for an oil change when it would literally take them 5 min. Just doesn't make sense to me, but to each their own I guess. Another noob wandering in the woods here. I've got a '16 6'TRD OR that now sports a 4 Wheel Eagle Camper (1000 lbs) for most of the year. To support so far I've installed OME Dakar 2" leafs and air bags which I'm quite happy with and seem to bear the camper weight quite well. Now need to decide what else is needed, ideally without destroying my savings account or credit card. Anticipating updating the front and rear shocks and lifting the front to match the rear. Any opinions please share. Thanks

 

Hey man! The Bilstein 5100 is a pretty good place to start. If you could come up with the extra cash it might be nice to have a resi on the rear shock. I am looking to replace my rear shocks with resi ones just because hauling a trailer over bumpy and roads with lots of ups and downs heat the rear shocks up pretty quickly. However, if you are pinched for cash the 5100 will do just fine. However, it will only work for up to 2" of rear lift, not an inch more. So just make sure your Dakar pack is really 2" high. As for the front, 5100 works well, but if you have the extra cash the 6112 is a better option. Pair all that with some OME 888 coils and SPC UCA's and you're golden

20 mins, huh? After years of swapping coils and struts all the time, 3 times in 2018 alone, still takes me 30-45 mins per side (not including cleanup of tools)

The only thing I can 'assume' hopefully... Slam is referring to installing a pre-assembled assembly. Even then, without moving the sway bar out of the way and un-bolting the knuckles and letting the LCA's hang, you will waste like an hour trying to shoe horn each assembly in place with a crowbar. If you have a magic solution to do each side in 10 mins, PLEASE share, would save me alot of time.

 

Who knows... he might have a secret method! 30-45 min per side sounds about normal.

 

He could live in East L.A.? In the 'Cheech and Chong' movie, Cheech says they got 'magic dust' out there lol!

 

20 mins per side I guess I was kinda vague and I just have the right tools for the job. Maybe the trucks have different quirks. For me and mine, I can have the coil over assembly out in a jiff.

If you want to count the time it takes to get tools out and jack the truck up then no. You’re right. It cannot be done in 20 minutes.

There are plenty of ways to skin a cat. Do as you see fit.

 

On a side note, I much prefer the OME 887X coil instead. Gives a tad bit more lift. However, the shock C-clip MUST sit on the bottom notch. Additionally, SPC upper control arms would definitely almost be a requirement since you are lifting close the the max allowable height. I've since went for a 6" kit, but I still help my friends with whatever suspension work they need done.

 

Just got SPC’s, they’re LEGIT. The most recent generation is at least. All forged, with some really nice joints. 10/10
