Thanks for the advice. Probably going crv. The rav4 has always struck me as cheap (and not in terms of price).

The new (2019) Rav4 looks pretty good though.

Looks like it should easily fit 35s with no lift. They don’t have an adventure model just for mall crawling!

I really appreciate this blog post. Thank you so much! If I could make a request, though, please label your axes, include units and perhaps include a key for colors on the tables. All the unlabeled data is really hard to parse.

As an example, in the following image, I have no idea what the 1-10 on the x-axis of the top charts is and the the bottom chart is meaningless to me without any understanding of what the colors mean, what the numbers represent (torque?) and why they are arrayed as they are.

Just think of this as an easy version of what Matt is trying to decipher out of the ecu. A chart without labels is hard enough, try an ecu where nothing is labeled and it’s all gibberish. That’s why this isn’t done in a day or two.

Sorry, I did not really mean for the blog post to have that level of detail. Just simple illustrations.

Some funny stuff on Facebook. The amount of hate this transmission is getting.
More and more people saying they hate the TSB after a few hundred miles and more complaints to toyota.
I hope toyota doesn't TSB the truck again..

IKR, as a fellow engineer I have never complained about the amount of time it has taken. I can also imagine he may be purposely obfuscating to keep his secret sauce secret. But in a document meant to explain things, it helps to know units/axes.

I can't remember where I read it but someone said they are putting out another TSB next month.

Found it (I won't say where) "Just thought I’d let everyone know my service manager said Toyota is coming out with another trans update the first couple weeks of December."

I'd take that with a grain of salt though. My service manager has told me a lot of things that never happened.

It was the same with the 2015 Chevy Colorado. Horrendous transmission programming, but zero help from Chevy.
There were tuners for it, but none that were willing to go into the level of detail that you're doing with the Toyota.
In 2017 Chevy dumped a new engine and tranny into the truck. I guess that's one way to fix a turd.

But would it really help? For that matter, we don't know the units of the data points in each of the cells. Are they counts that somehow translate to duty cycle of an injector? In the end, it doesn't matter what the units are on the axes, (yes it really is the plural of axis). Whether they are RPM vs. throttle position, or MAF vs. crank position, etc., there are many complex tables with many data points.
Which was the purpose of the post in the first place.

I think you are correct, Mat has stated in the past that he doesn't put the real axis labels on for that exact reason (protects his IP).
