Does it make a difference as per the size of the relay? So if I only have 2 or 3 amps on the switch and the relay is 30 amp.
Can I add 2 switches/circuits on the same relay?

you can have more lights switched by that same relay but it would have to all be the same switch.

I think most relays are 20-30amp regardless.

The switch goes to the coil, just a big coil or wire and gets magnetized when you energize it pulling a contant either open or close if its a 5 pin.

You'd have a normally open and normally close contact then a common, usually fed by your constant power feed for said accessory.

I meant more like whether having such a high rated relay, 20 or 30, would affect smaller amperage draw coming from lights.
Ok, so one realay per switch and as long as the relay can handle the total for the draw then it's all good. I shouldn't exceed 75% of the relay right?

you're thinking too much like a breaker haha.

Relays can be loaded to pretty much full capacity thats what they are designed for.

But no you wont have an issue having a higher rated relay than your load.
if it was the other way around you would burn out the relay

I did my bed lights and hood lights without a relay. Those led’s don’t use much at all. I did a wire off the battery to a inline fuse then split it from there to 2 separate switches. No issues at all

just have to check what your switch is rated for and then what the load of the lights would be.

I know the OTRATTW switches I have recommend relays regardless of load as its the main way to run any lights.

Having the inline fuse is good though its the best way to protect it.
If you put too much current through a switch it could end up basically getting welded together so just be careful. I know some of those cheap switches are only rated for 0.5amp.

Figure the factory LED bed light (3rd brake light) is relayed as well.
Small strip lights are usually ok but once you get into and pod light etc its better to just be on a relay. What you have now is fine but if you add more lights like Tony wants to do I'd suggest going relay, I could help wire them if you're not too familiar with it.

Think of it this way its better to be at 15% max load rating of a relay vs 90% load of a switch. Long run they do get worn out and fail and its much easier to just pull a relay off and change it than it is to pull a switch out and change those, also usually cheaper depending what type of switches you use. Those OTRATTW switches are around $10+ a switch you can get a five pack of relays for $20 off Amazon.

So I actually cleared this up with the VMUTS board while I was on it. The VMUTS never actually closes to anything. You can take you truck, or 4wheeler on the VMUTS any time. The snowmobile trails that go through VMUTS are shared trails, not dedicated snowmobile trails.

Sure the snowmobilers hate it when you make tracks on their groomed trails, but you can as long you stay on the marked VMUTS trails.

We dont use the trails after they start grooming them with the trail groomer. Before they get it out and start laying tracks, its open county for us :cookiemonster:

ya very true. Little LED's is alright, but ya anything bigger like the pods or a light bar, a relay is the way to go

i dunno how much it will really help with mpg, it didn't really change with mine.
Your shit fuel efficeincy you're seeing is from winter gas. mine dropped a lot too it sucks :(

or go with passenger tires lol.
now that my winters are on and passenger rated efficiency is back up around 11L/100km

Yeah I dont want to ruin anyone's hard work.

Had to do a little trail clearing at one point.

Some hunters got stuck on the trail, trying to wait to long to pack up hunt camp. They had 3 vehicles but it was not going to make a difference. My buddy got them up the hill with his winch, then it took 2 pulling to get them out to the road. The truck hooked up to the trailer had All season tires, not aired down. No locker. If we had not come along, they would have had to leave the trailer in the middle of the trail.

    :bananadance:

Was a fun AF day, spent 5 hours in 4x4. Damn that was a good time :cookiemonster:

That was probably the last run until spring, they will start grooming all those trails soon.
