I took my wife truck shopping with me. She picked the Pro.
She didn’t give a crap about the suspension either- it was the interior, hood, head/tail/fog lights and the wheels. Even now when we see off-road models, she still says they look like something a grandfather would drive compared to my Pro.

Chics notice. At least mine does.

Ironically, 72.5% of the guys buying pros are grandfathers. It’s never too late to impress the ladies!

    Still stock completely capable!
Man just spend a solid 15 min reading this laughing pretty hard! All I can say is welcome to the Tacoma family OP! Truly can’t wait to see your truck when it’s done! I love Tacoma’s all shape sizes and years! They are amazing and capable stock, BUT who really gets a Tacoma to keep it stock LOL! Good luck and can’t wait to see the finished product ! Cheers!

One of my buddies bought an almost $10k KTM dirt bike and immediately put $7k of suspension upgrades in it.

He also removed EVERY bolt from it and replaced them with titanium counterparts.

So ya, he's insane. But God love him

Last time I checked, the Raptor is a full sized truck. Apples to oranges comparison. Putting money in 'x' car doesn't equate to 'y' car.

But dollars for one are the same dollars for the other. When the amount leaving the my bank account is the same I start looking at what more I can get for the same amount.

My current longbed Tacoma is almost the same size as a Raptor with half the motor, his Pro would be smaller than my truck but getting into Raptor territory for dollars spent.

    Meh... his money.

    Two things:
    1. Not even close to the same territory. My Pro was 41k. Show me a newish Raptor for even 10k over that and it's a steal with 0 options.

    2. I bet my Pro is worth more now than that new Raptor will be worth in 1 year. Of course my Pro is one of only 250, so maybe that's an easy bet

You Pro owners are really optimistic on the resale value of a Pro over the other Tacoma trims and what you spent on your Pro is not what the OP will end up spending on his in the long run. Take a look at the resale value of Raptors, they hold pretty well too, you're not going to get $40K for your 4 year old Tacoma.

    https://www.carmax.com/cars/ford/f150/svt-raptor

You add the cost of his new Pro plus upgrades he gets into Rapture territory on money spent and he doesn't need to be a brand new raptor, you can find 40K mile Raptors for $40- 45K all over the place.

My 2 year old Tacoma OR Longbed has 36k miles so a 40K mile Raptor is newish enough for me. I also don't think your Pro Resale will be significantly more than my OR over time regardless of what color / option.

traded my 2015 Pro for my 2017 Pro, 17 blows the 15 away, and the bfg's that came on my 2015 came off in 6 months, they were terrible tires.. would never even think about buying the BFG's... and they are all-terrain tires, not offroad tires

Sounds like there are a few OR owners in this thread that will scratch that for you.

I shall soon be one myself, although I would remain preferential to having it scratched for me.

Well I'm pretty sure I ruined the resale value of mine. I've got Kings going on next week, full steel bumper (rear comes in Feb), roof rack, sliders, and all sorts of other shit. No real regrets but my local brain wishes I would have got a lower trim model. Shwoops.

Again..apples to oranges comparison. A Raptor is a FULL SIZED truck. It doesn't matter if the Tacoma had an MSRP of 100K, the Raptor would still be a FULL SIZED truck.

Pretty much in name only now, like I said, my tacoma is about the same size as the Raptor. If spending that money then consider bumping up.

Both are Tacos, hows that for apples to apples.

This question gets asked a billion times.

    Why not?

Look at it this way, if he specifically wants a Voodoo Blue truck, but plans on putting 35" tires and a 3" lift on it what other option does he have? None (yet)

Maybe I really want to heavily mod my truck and do a full off road warrior truck, well an off road would be the best option for me right? Maybe, depends on if I wanted that VB color or if I am just fully in love with the TRD leather interior (yes I can get Off road with leather but NOT the TRD Pro leather...) If someone has the money to build the truck they want in the color they want with the options they want why not?

Some people just like the idea of owning a TRD Pro just for that moniker. But still want a truck to mod... To each his own. This really doesn't seem like a difficult thing to comprehend yet this question gets asked OVER AND OVER AND OVER.

I think this is usually the reasoning behind this.
