I have tried 2 locking pins and none are long enough to lock. What do y'all use?

I use the ones made by Bolt that use your truck key.

I've had a stainless model from Home Depot for 10 years and it's been great. It gets salt water on it all the time and has never given me any trouble. I believe it was around $20.

Grease the hell out of your locking hitch pins...... otherwise they'll lock so well only a grind will take them of.

    Trust me.. I know

I found one that fit! I didn't think about the greasing part. Great advice. Going to go and do it now before I forget.

We have bought three of whatever Academy has, and they work well. I expect that Home Depot has much the same thing. Keep the key on the ring with your truck key and you never have to wonder where it's at.

I'm using a Connor stainless steel locking hitch pin. Works just fine but the O ring that seals the locking mechanism is lacking. I replaced the O ring with a larger one and trimmed it to fit exactly. So far so good....

I don't think grease is the best protectant or lubricant in this case as it will probably attract and hold all sorts of grime. Maybe Fluid Film or a dry lubricant would be better suited....??

I spray mine intermittently with a thin coat of silicon lubricant and that works fine, doesn't hold any dirt. I also highly recommend spraying some additional lube into the lock tumbler mechanism from time to time, and then work the key in and out a few times.

That link didn't work for me but it's funny when looking at trailer locks. Most of them just lock the actual coupling but if I really wanted the boat I could u bolt the coupling and put on a new one.

He means you can just unbolt the tongue from the trailer and bolt a replacement on with no lock.

It’s true, but the point of a lock is never to 100% deny theft, just to make it harder and encourage the thief to move on to an easier target.
