Good trip man, been reading along when the kids allow it. I hope you got the cutter pin keeper in that LBJ after the picture.
I think @Blackdawg nailed it I have been shooting for every 75k for major parts like that.

If you're hard on them every oil change or after/before every trip. I'm seeing play in mine after less than 10k with oem ones.

BTW Dan, as always great reports! If I had a steering rack I'd be tempted to head to Utah this weekend. I'm getting an itch to visit the desert.

Thanks - I know they're long and can take a bit of time to read. Totally get working that around the kiddos! And yeah, the cotter pin got in there for sure!

Wow, 10K seems low. That'd be 3-4 new joints/year for me now. Pricey!

Thanks, and I hear ya! I've got a couple more trips to post as well, but definitely getting the itch again. And for something warmer - so south it'll be!

Good to see not letting that castle but back off. Being as a daily driver and strict about mechanical operations more then looks on a anything with a motor. I tend to go over all that stuff with every 2 month oil change. Putting it off always left me in a bad situation, I can still walk 10 miles to service. I will not put my kids in that situation, or leave them in the car and have something happen to me.

Now I know why my dad did things the way he did.

Just go to ACE, they'll have paint pens right near the welding supplies. Might I suggest bright yellow or red

I think it's simply how hard I beat on the truck. I wouldn't be surprised if things in the front are bent but not enough to cause the lbj to bind.

@Squeaky Penguin what did you get out of your last set?

This is why I'm going heims. Figure I beat on it hard enough and they should last as long but be stronger anyways.

Under 30k and they had quite a bit of play. Should have replaced them sooner.

Current set has 11k on them and just a tiny bit of vertical play.

We're not easy on our trucks. :D

I need to get one of these too. Been doing the same as @m3bassman which is a pain. Bright yellow for me, I think. Will be nice for marking when welding too!

    :rofl: You're just :stirthepot::stirthepot::stirthepot:.

Yikes. I sure hope I'm not ending up in the same situation as you guys - that'll be a lot of LBJs to purchase over a short period of time.

    - - -

Now that I have these on, and figured I'd be doing them every ~1-2 years or so, I was considering buying another set just b/c they are on sale with BF.

Conicelli Toyota has them right now for $111.65 each with bolts (Left | Right). With their 10% off Black Friday coupon (BF10), that's $200+shipping, so $215 for me, which is about $20 cheaper than Camelback.

Ryan and I drive rather spiritedly offroad.

Driving fast is what is so hard on them. Full bump to full extension dozens and dozens of time a day.

Driving slower would certainly be easier on everything, but where's the fun in that?

    Hahaha.

I definitely fancy myself a slow driver - though I've only got Monte, Mike, Ben, Zane, and @drr to compare myself to. And Mike keeps saying that I'm going faster every day. Probably true since the trip @mrs.turbodb and I took a couple weeks ago, she was yelping and holding onto the oh shit handle, and I was like, "what's wrong?"

Still, slower than the rest of the gang is all good with me, but it'd be fun to get out with you guys as well so I can compare speeds. Too bad we weren't able to meet up on the last trip for a couple days - would have been great!

You'll get there, gonna make some great leaps here in a few days! I'll be the slow one soon enough in my 2ton Toyota tank as I get it all figured out for this kinda stuff again.

I was questioning your guys' pace as Monte was texting. But I'm sure we're all meet up for a trip at some point here.

We left our camp somewhere on the smokey mountain road not far from where Left Hand Collet joints, out and backed Grand Bench, and made it to Alstrom with plenty of time to watch the sunset in one day.

But but but, I don't want to get there. I like slower. Take in the sights, enjoy! Oh, who am I kidding - I know that if I'm to continue these trips, the speed will only pick up. hahahahaha

Yeah, with the conditions we had, there's no way we were going to do that. But probably similar in good conditions. Oh man, I can't wait to post that part of the story. Was an interesting 24 hours. ;)
