Sure is the NP. This is on the paved road into the chisos basin. We were heading up for a quick backpacking trip and decided to stop for a couple pictures since it was my friend's first time there.

I've been wanting to make it out to Big Bend Ranch SP, but haven't been able to yet. Seems like there are some solid trails for hiking, biking and off-roading. Any recommendations on trails that need to be done out there?

The unmaintained trails WILL scratch the ever living crap out of your rig but they’re the most fun. I don’t remember any names of the trails as we just go and go and go. We start after breakfast, about 0900, go showering then do trials until dinner. We take food for lunch on the trail. It’s much more isolated than the NP with mostly no cell service.

    Sorry to hijack this thread.
I have 1 hang-up with the Softtopper as of right now.

Do any of y'all have your dogs ride in the back?

I've done 2 10 hour road trips with the dogs in the back. They were fine.

As long as you don't think they'll tear it up or get hot/cold they'll be alright. Using a crate is the best option I think.

I put mine in there for short trips. Little dog is fine and crawls right in, big dog gets claustrophobic and I have to coax him in there.

    Thanks.
    Shouldn't be a problem honestly.
    Wife had some concerns.

Don't think there be any log trips in the future. Just shorter trips to hike, etc.

But, kids don't always come, so, they should be in the back seat for the most part

    20181024_071810.jpg Another question....
For those with the short bed.....

I have a KB box in the back, and, I do not plan to let it go....

Its 24"deep, and mounts to the tracks... I was looking at the hardware/frame, and have a couple concerns for space.

I know I wont be able to slide it back and forth with top installed, but, would I be able to lower the top? Is there enough room to keep the box, if i moved it all the way forward, or aft?

I don't think it will work. The pivot in the middle sits lower than the top of the tool box.

If there was a way to make that box sit about 2" lower, it would allow the ST to go up and down easily.

Yeah... i didnt think lowering it would be an option... guess now I just need to know for sure if there is room between the pivot, and the end of the rails to keep the box.

    Thanks,

Pretty sure if you slid the box all the way towards tail gate that you could lower the top.

At 24", you will not be able to open the lid very far before the corners of the lid hit the SoftTop frame or canvas. You will have to fold down the SoftTop in order to open the lid more than 45 to 60 degrees.

Thanks. But... the door drops, and each drawer slides out

I think I am going to need to test fit one before I buy... and I dont know anyone that would be willing. Im not all that willing to give up the flexibility of the box. Super stout....

I thought it was a tray instead of a drawer system. This makes a lot more sense. I see why you would want to use it with the Softopper.

Dogs love trucks :) If your dog is the type to jump out, then I would recommend a center-point tiedown with a harness. He will have access to the bed of the truck without being able to jump out.

Has anyone tried the rack that Softtopper sells? Would appreciate input on quality and install with the softtopper underneath it. Would use it for surf rod storage and for kayaks. The pic below is from the Softtopper site.

Yes. The quality is fine. It can be a pain to install both the rack and Softopper together. As stated on the website, the Softopper won't fold up with the rack on. Its not very convenient so I never use them together. If I had to do it over again I wouldn’t have bought it.
