Looking for some s/c tune advice. Have a prerunner that goes down to Baja now and then and it needs very good air filtration. Will be putting on a s/c here soon and plan to run the biggest UMP filter I can fit but they are known to be pretty restrictive—I’ll be overdoing it on size to make sure I have room for increased restriction as the filters get dirty.

Any thoughts on how the TRD tune handles this? How about with a 2.825” pulley?

    Thanks!

Bad vent valve or a blockage of sorts not allowing the excess pressure to vent out perhaps?

    Let's make those replies 10,001 now. :)

For me the tank is just big enough on road trips with no safety margin. Like if I'm making good time and dont want to stop but you know the next gas station is 60 miles ahead.
Off road /camping would be worse. You would have to bring extra gas if your offroading in BFE.

I always bring a couple gas cans when wheeling/camping... For that reason. We have gotten close a couple times out in Utah and Colorado in the sticks. Range is definitely a bummer. There's a company that makes extended range tanks for our trucks. I believe 30 or 32 gallons. But it's $$$$

It’s a commitment, but I’ll be getting another one for my 1997 80. Only issue on mine was modding the pickup and float for added depth. Not sure if the Tacoma needs that. I’ve had zero fill up issues. Looking at a Turbo setup for the 97 and I want the 37 gallons of premium vs the 25.1 gallons oem tank capacity. 25.1 in a truck that gets 13 mpg on a good day. WTF Toyota?

Well, I wasn't planning on ordering until end of first quarter next year, but @Cruiser Brothers has them for $200 off this month. May as well take advantage of that.

So, I finally got my rig all back together and fired up yesterday. All I can say is wow, it's pretty dang quick now. It's been a long time since I last had this running while I've been working on an engine replacement. With work and kids, my time has been limited to 20 or 30 minute stints, which really makes it hard to finish a single task, let alone a full engine replacement.

I want to give thanks to all you folks on this thread for all the input and information. After prelubing with a garden sprayer, (@Torspd thanks for the port info) I actually got it fired up and running on the first crank! Only two items that I over looked (so far) were a hose clamp on the heater core inlet, and I split the boot on the boost gauge point of connection. While doing some data logging for the UCON, a subaru wrx thought he'd have a little fun, but I quickly tracked him down with part throttle. He rolled down his window at the next stop. All he could say was "Damn, what does that thing have under the hood? That thing's awesome!"

Work accomplished during this upgrade session:
    - Installed a 60,000 mile Tacoma Engine to replace my old 173,000 stocker (Spun bearing I thinks).
    - Replaced the water pump, main seals, thermostat housing and spacer kit with all new seals. New belts and hoses.
    - Ucon with stage 3 tune
    - 7th injector
    - 2.5" pulley, down from the 2.875"
    - 61 pound per hour injectors
    - URD Equal length headers with ARP studs
    - Replaced all the battery cables and did a big three upgrade with all 1/0.
    - AFE Cold Air intake
    - DC Engineering Billet 250amp Alternator
    - @Roostfactor pulley kit

    Immediate planned additions:
    - Ratiotek valve body upgrade (in hand)
    - @Roostfactor Y Pipe (on the list!!)
    - Ron Davis Radiator with dual electric SPAL fans (this has been on order for 13 weeks, maybe one of these days it'll be ready?)
    - Bussman RTMR and custom wiring harness to provide power circuits for the fans and other items. Thanks @loginfailed for the information on the A/C trigger.
    - Intercooler tank replacement

On a side note regarding the UCON. I have a Kenwood DNX994s and Maestro Datalink, which can reproduce the guages that you'd normally see with the scanguage. I never had issues before the UCON, but after the UCON I kept seeing an error, " OBD2 Disconnected". After some research, it looks like you need to go into the head unit in standby mode (that's important) Settings-> OEM setting-> Maestro-> Guages -> OBD2 Communications and change the default setting from "Auto Disable" to "Always Enable". All the guages that displayed before, are back working. I haven't seen any issues with the UCON yet.

I hope to get this thing dyno'd following the fan installation...We'll see.....

I have a leak from the lid area.

Pretty much using this as an excuse to change it out. Plus I'm rearranging the tank to better accommodate my Dual Bussman RTMR's. I found a cheap aluminum tank that's about the dimensions that I was hoping for along with some weld in fittings. Now I just need to address the sloshing effect with a baffle and probably should put a traditional radiator cap with pressure/vacuum relief. Kinda hoping this is about a $50 tank by the time it's done....we'll see!

Also, It's always important to thank those that take their time to point you in the right direction! This isn't a third gen thread where they eat their young.
