The safety features are certainly not worth going into debt for, ideally they should never be needed. The adaptive cruise control is a convenience, and again not worth going into debt for.

The adaptive cruise has grown on me, if I had an auto I would consider it a very nice feature.

May as well keep the 2010. His parents want him to have the safety stuff. Why get a truck payment and still dont have the safety features?

In 2015 alone, I had three accidents, two of which were NOT my fault. I was rear-ended by a texting driver in March 2015, I rear-ended a Mustang going like 5 MPH in August 2015, and a drunk driver sideswiped me in October 2015. Between August 2015 and May 2018, I've had a few minor fender-benders. This is why my parents want me to get a vehicle with TSS or something similar.

Not worth it to me. I have lane departure off all the time. The blind spot monitoring is cool but I made it just fine without it for 15 years. It’s there and all new vehicles are heading that way but if i could pick to get a model without that stuff I would.

Charlie...keep your truck that you love. In 10 yrs you'll kick yourself in the ass for selling it. Save for a house. At the pace you're going you will then be able to look out into your driveway and see your 09 beside the next gen.

    Good work

I like my '18s TSS. It's come on just a few times, but and has slowed my down a bit faster than I normally would have. It would have kicked in on your fault accident, but would have done nothing on the other two.

TSS would not have done anything to help with two of those situations. The mustang I don't know about, possibly.

I've had a 2018 for about 8 months now and have had TSS kick in twice:

The first time was when someone cut me off. As I was slamming on the brakes the system gave an audible noise, but from what I could tell didn't interfere with how I was braking.

The second time I was driving on the highway and the cars in front of me had stopped. I thought they were slowing not coming to a complete stop so I wasn't braking too hard. This time the system warned me before I started applying more braking pressure but I don't think it braked for me.

The system seems to work, though I wouldn't want to test it without braking myself though haha

As to your question, it's down to how you feel about it I guess. I totaled my 16 when someone ran through a stop sign. Not sure if TSS would have prevented that, but I guess I'll never know. I don't drive any different with it than I did without it. Honestly the biggest pro for me in driving an 18 vs my 16 is the auto rear window and the auto high beams.

The biggest downside to me is the potential issues when modifying the suspension (ie lifting the truck).

Keep your truck and the extra money. Newer is nice and maybe very slightly safer. Maybe not if it doesn't prove itself.

My wife’s 2018 highlander has TSS. I hate everything except the blind spot monitoring it sort of works but I have made it just fine without it so far

The adaptative cruise control slows down way way way to early even on the lowest setting

The lane departure monitoring is fucking scary and fights you trying to change lanes without a blinker on.

Keep the truck you have if all you want is TSS

The good thing about the Tacoma is the Lane departure on it is just a warning. It does not correct you like the Highlander does. Also, it's a simple press to turn it off anyway.

Do you have to turn it off every time you restart the truck?

The adaptive cruise control is awesome if you spend a lot of time on the highway. Not worth a big new car payment though if your current ride is meeting your needs.

It seems to stay off if I remember right. I had it on during the test drive, turned it off on the way home, and when I went to pick up my daughter I had to turn it back on because I wanted to have it on while on the Interstate.
