My house is one mountain peak north of that pic. These mountains used to be massive millions of years ago.
Some of the most beautiful parts of the country are right where you were.
Hit me up if your in that area again.

Oh and course go with the black, look at all ththe black accents that are already on the truck.
Or get a wrap on that jammer and use he metallic grey as a base color.

 

I’ll do that... my wife and I really enjoyed the area, we were discussing a future move if appropriate jobs were available. It’s a stunningly beautiful area and compared to here (northern NY) the weather is fantastic

wow thats a trip.. my town is at 7600ft. Is that a ARB 2000 you have mounted?

Yep, it’s an amazing area. My grandpa built a bunker up there, and I have been going there ever since. I live up there every other week. There is a sweet 7hr home from Mt.Mitchel to my house that I hike every two weeks. I can’t get enough of it.
I will be moving up there for good soon, as my other house is downtown Atlanta... which sucks and always has. I landed a job in Atl out of college. I was part of a big layoff back in 2011, and since then I have no reason for me to stay. In fact I quite my career all together and started up a small landscape business.

Back to the GFC, has anyone put food down tables on the outside of their GFC yet. I figure why not create some horizontal space to use.

I myself will be either ordering a cement gray one or Black. I may get a wild hair and do up a sleek design, but not the biggest fan of branding, so it would have to harken back to old school yota stripes (using Cement, Calvary and Black).
I got some serious skills in compositing, so I am going to Photoshop it up and post some pics.
Anyone seen what plastic dip does on the side panels?

 

So how are these sealing up in heavy rains now? still leaking or has it been resolved?

 

I've been through some torrential downpours and now snow in the PNW. Besides condensation I've had no issues with water. No leaks at all.

 

I’m having some leaking issues but been in touch with the shop and they are planning on doing some updates or repairs when they make the next PNW run. I was #3 off the line so I’m guessing they have some updates to share they’ve learned from. Interesting though that dust wasn’t a problem but water is a bitch.

 

Curious - Are the panels textured? Been a long time since I’ve seen one in person. Just wondering.

 

After my girlfriend and dogs complained about the cold I may have to add some insulation pieces to the inside of the panels. That might help with a little but of the condensation, but I'm not expecting to completely solve it. I've always just dealt with condensation as a given, whether backpacking, car camping with my old shell, or roughing it, I've never found a value solution other than throwing fans at it. I'd rather have condensation than ruin my outdoor experience with noise from a fan........ But if someone finds the holy Grail solution I'm all ears.

Even airing it out has been a little rough. Hard to air it out when the water and vapor freeze. But I wouldn't swap my GFC for anything now that I can roll back into camp tired and frozen, then setup dinner and bed within minutes.

Which reminds me, is there still a GFC mod thread or did that die? It's a pain to traverse all these pages to find the good work being done, i.e. things you've done along with the sweet custom insulation a few days back.

 

Oddly enough, I hang up a towel to help with condensation. I found it to actually help as I would wake up and it would be soaking wet, and my tent wouldn’t be. Not sure what material it was...I think wool?

Whereabouts in ID are you? I’m visiting family in Lewiston. Cool city. Only my second time to this area.

 

I have textured panels on mine. Guessing the updates they make will be fine tuning the rubber, panel tightness as I feel like mine are uneven front to back, can see a little light through a corner, buttoning up the pre-drilled holes, etc. I get a lot of wate in the two sides font and back edges but on the side walls. My light kit is also a little finicky. Also, the GFC team offered to do this all weeks ago with an overhaul if I could make it to Bozeman. Too far to drive this season so they’ll update it while on the road. I can imagine that as quick as these guys can innovate and turn around small changes in production they will just keep getting better and better.

 

Lol, I was born and raised in Lewiston and still go back a few times a year. I've been a nomad the last few years LA, Seattle, etc, but now Boise is my homebase. Depending on how long you have next time you are in Idaho you will have to go to the Stanley/Sawtooth area in central Idaho, Swan Valley/Targhee in the east, or the forest up past Lake Pend Oreille. They are some of my favorite areas in all of the Northwest.

 

I'm going to insulate every square inch (that I can reach) of exposed aluminum panel on my unit. This is similar to insulating the hull of a fiberglass boat. In the early days of fiberglass boat building condensation was a huge problem. It was mostly eliminated by building the hull and superstructure with foam cored fiberglass. I don't see that the GFC is much different. Of course the factory could do this but it would add to the cost.
I don't think that it would be that hard to install your own insulation. It would be tedious and time consuming but closed cell foam could be installed that would be both functional and aesthetically acceptable.
If you don't install insulation, you'll never come close to resolving the condensation issue.
