So let me get this straight. If you need to put a bigger object in your truck you can't access your full bed because of the middle section, and the 2 enormous panels? Yikes. Seems like a regular tonneau is way more convenient.

The panels are removable, but if your item doesn't fit inside, just put it on top and strap it down.

There's a step in the instructions that deals with that - you get a friend to sit on the DB cover to mash down the thick rubber seal as you're tightening/installing it, then you leave it alone for a day or two so the rubber "sets". No more tilt.

If you need full access to the bed, it’s 4 bolts and it’s off. Too frickin’ easy. I’ve taken mine off, left the doors on it, and picked it up and just set it in my garage in less than 5 min, and about 10 min to put it back on just because you’re supposed to tighten the bolts down evenly and in a pattern. Still just as waterproof. No stick on Velcro. No drilling. No modification needed to make it waterproof. Thing just works as described.

Diamondback cover is the way to go. If it doesn’t fit in under the cover, throw it on top and strap it down. My bed is bone dry too.

I got mine from Mike at AutoAnything. He has a thread where you can post part numbers and he will PM you with discounted pricing.

Love mine and agree...take it off or put it on top. Makes a great work platform too!

Does anyone have the raw aluminum DB? I wonder how good it holds up in the elements without the black coating. A couple of guys on Tacoma Nation bought the raw aluminum one and wrapped it to match the color of his truck (Cement I believe). The other guy plastidipped it black. I wish I can find the thread again (pictures) and post them here as reference.

Just saying, 10 secs to access your entire bed on a regular tonneau vs 15 mins on the DB. Depends on your lifestyle I guess but a regular cover seems more convenient for most. Does anyone have any personal pictures where there is a significant load on the top of the DB? Does anyone do this often?

I think you nailed it when you said you have to buy for your lifestyle. Pros and cons to each setup. I have moved dressers, tables etc on top of mine. In summer months I run a rack and RTT with my DiamondBack. This set up allows me to keep my belongings secure and out of site on trips. Hope this helps.

The SE is able to support up to 400lbs. The HD is able to support up to 1600lbs. At that weight I’d be more concerned about the walls of the bed flexing.

    Little over 100lbs

After throwing on some skids, sliders, heavier tires, and all my gear, I can’t tell. I have a manual and get around 17-18 miles per gallon. Even driving through the mountains with 5000-7000 foot elevation gain.

My truck is my DD as well. I bought the Diamondback for it's security and functionality. I wanted a cover that was more than a cover. Something that had some versatility. Check, Check, Check.

As for the tie downs, trust me, you'll want them. I have the SE, which standard is only 4 tie downs at the corners on the sides of the truck. I bought the 4-pack they sell and installed 2 more on the middle section. I use that to tie off my hammock when I'm near a tree, which happens to be whenever I feel like it.

I tie down random things to the top that won't fit inside the bed or are too messy and would require me to actually clean the bed (ie: Christmas tree, dog bed/cage, etc). The tie downs are so functional.

It's a good cover, and I can't see my truck without one. And, it looks badass.

    And one more for fun...

I was looking at the Undercover Ridgelander Tonneau Cover before purchasing the Diamondback....however, I think the DB wins hands down. The accessories on the Ridgelander is where the fun is for that cover though. After comparing, it's just the rail over the bed, while still having a cover, that I was actually interested in. I didn't want to lose the space above my bed. Diamondback's versatility wins out and it's sooooo solid.

This thread is such a hilarious, bittersweet reality check for anyone who tries to compare a Diamondback to anything else :drunk:

The one who dies with the most stuff wins.
What hoist system is that? Looking for something like that to lift up my rack and RTT all in one piece.

Love mine. Someone tried to pry it open one night and it was able to keep them out. I just bounced on it a few times to get to flush with the tailgate again.
