My wife's family had/has a tradition of all going to get trees the day after Thanksgiving. They've always lived well into January. We cut our own though, some of the tree farm ones that are precut, you have no idea how long they've been out of water before you get them.

Well if they want one of the best available head out to Nantucket for 888 distillery. It's named after public well 888 where they get their water from. They have a whiskey called the notch that beat out scotch and Irish whiskeys in world competition because Nantucket weather is so similar to Ireland and Scotland where the barrels respire with the sea air and replicate the process used to create authentic scotch whiskey I went to a tasting there and tried some of their "younger stuff" that was only $100 a bottle they have $600 and $700 bottles there.

We cut ours every year from a farm in Berlin mass they last forever when you cut them fresh even with the woodstove drying it out. It takes lots of water probably a quart a day

    speaking of quarts

Check out this bullshit I want to change my snowblowers oil for the first time. yeah that's right in like 10 years because it's a snowblower so I go to change it and noticed the drain tube doesn't have any place for the wrench to hold it for you undo the end cap. The vice can't hold it there's not enough grip room this is ridiculous. When I gripped tightly as I can with the clamps it's still spins out and the cap doesn't move. The best part is it's it's so flush with the housing you can't get a pipe wrench around either. I don't know how they do this in service they must stand it up on it's end and pop it out and suck it out.

I figured out how to do it though. Flipped it up on it's auger and took the whole pipe out and then grabbed it with my vice and got that damn end cap off. Then put it back on, tipped it back down and drain the oil :)
What a pain in the ass.

My snowblower has the same crap setup. I used the high test liquid tite on the engine side of the pipe because I couldn’t hold the pipe with vise grips and get the cap off. I prop up the auger on blocks so the oil runs out of the pipe. Mine sticks a little further out of the back though but barely clears the back of the snow blower.

I usually get my tree early December. Love the real trees, and so do the cats.

Just had to tow the caterers trailer and truck out of about 2 inches of snow. Two wheel drive and crap tires aren’t a good mix in this slick stuff, even on a barely noticeable incline.
