Put that bubba winch rope thing on today. With the grille off as well as the headlight support bracket thing, there was enough room to put it on with no issues.

When I took my winch line out to clean it originally, I noticed the inner sleeve was chafed. I didn’t find any burrs on the drum, so my only guess is it was the bottom lip on my bumper barely coming in contact. Filed it down and told joe and he’ll update the bumpers from here on forward.

Overall I’m happy with the bubba rope thing. It seemed to work very well.

Now remember even with that bubba rope thing NEVER REPEAT NEVER leave less than 10 raps on the drum. Seem what happens if you let more out.

With that said finaly pulled the winch off the blazer. Thinking about rebuilding it if it will fit the taco. Its a warn 15k hydraulic winch. Have to rebuild the drum. Thats how she got totaled. :anonymous:

Thanks for the reminder! I've only had that much winch line out once, and just busted out my ARB winch extension strap. I'm very cautious with taking out too much line.

Yes got it stuck on a hill in WI. Only way was up. With extension had 7 raps left. Started winching cable tension was greater than tension on the drum. When the cable breaks free of the drum it is not a perty sight.

“That bubba winch rope thing”

C’mon mate yeww got yourself there a new synthetic loin.

Winch wrap is good. I’ve read it should be stored on the drum under tension.

Lol no this line is from southeast overland. The bubba rope winch thing is that little thing that’s holding it to the drum.

Agree. I don’t have experience trying to winch with a couple wraps on the drum but I have pulled the line off not paying attention to the wraps..
In Wyoming in a remote national Forrest I came across a truck and trailer stuck in a snow drift in late May. I was able to pull them back to get unstuck but there goal was to go forward to camp. Once unstuck he backed up and jack knifed the trailer into a bank. I drove up through the drift snow to pull him forward up the trail. I stayed far away to stay on solid ground but it was too far for my winch line.. The set screw was pulled out and I had to spend some time to get the line to overlap itself on the drum and wrap a few times. It was a rushed recovery and wish I coulda thought it out better. Home from the trip I reset a set screw with loc-tite and after so many wraps I wrapped the transition from internal sheath to winch line with red electrical tap for me to identify as a stopping point as I walking the winch line out.

So does that replace the set screw? What’s the actually purpose of that bubba thingy?

Yeah exactly! Watch the video on their page. It explains it better than I can. I only got it because I went to respool my line under load, and forgot to put the first 10 wraps on. Of course as soon as I went to pull the line in, the line yanked free of the set screw crimp.

Yeah I gotcha. Camp isn’t camp without a blazing fire. Just sitting outside in the cold in the dark is never fun regardlesss of who you’re with!

Hit up Alcan springs to get a quote on how much for some custom springs. One friend runs them and has nothing but good things to say. They're roughly $750 shipped, so only an extra $200 more than dakars for something tailored to my needs. Can't wait to hear back!!

$750 sounds like a good chuck of money but you are so far off the rails that you need something tailored to your weight & needs at this point. I would much rather make one big investment now & know that I would be set for years to come.

Yeah that’s my thinking as well. If it ends up being more than that, I’ll have to pitch it to Mrs est and see what she says. Worst case I’ll just go with my original plan and get HD dakars and add another aal.
