I just changed both the rear and front differential gear oil on my 2017 TRD OR LB with 25,000 miles. I was surprised to find the rear oil looked kind of OK, dirty but with a little transparency. The magnet was gummed up with sludge but not too bad. The front however was really black and the magnet had twice the amount of sludge as the rear. I use four wheel drive only occasionally. A couple weeks of pretty regular use during hunting season. Just thought I would pass along as I was surprised front was so dirty. Maybe not a bad idea to change early.

I’m sure it’s fine but I’ve changed all mine out with Redline by 5k miles. My front diff fluid looked almost like mud which was weird. Nevertheless I’ll change every 60k including MT and Tcase

I changed my differentials at the 5K service (after reading some of the threads on here about it). They really weren't as bad as I expected... A little bit of sludge on the magnets, and the oil was dark, but still translucent. Overall, I felt like it was probably a little overkill to do at 5k, but at least I've got Redline synthetic in there now.

I know it's a third gen thread, but i got a 2015 tacoma, with 28,000 miles, just changed mine as well. Rear diff not to bad, somewhat dirty, but oil still had some honey color to it, magnet was pretty clean, front diff, oil looked good and clean, still had a nice honey color and magnet was very clean. Replaced with mobile full synthetic
