I can feel my insides pickling just looking at that gasoline.

Funny you should mention gasoline- when I saw the picture my first thought was "I wonder how much it costs, I bet it's priced the same as gasoline- $3.00 a gallon!".

    Would you?

I was at Total Wine today asking my usual "Whatcha got hiding behind the counter?". This time they pull out a bottle of Angels Envy Cask Strength. Never seen one before (they only received one bottle). When I asked how much they said $180. Yikes. Not in my budget so I moved on. Crazy thing is I'm seeing they do a limited release each year and previous years bottles are listed for $300 +/-.

Personally, no from me. I think the most I've spent on a bottle if anything was ~$80 and I don't think I'll ever go above that . I just can't justify the cost. Will it taste good? Probably, but it is worth double the cost of others that I enjoy? Not sure, and don't think I care to find out. If I don't like it, I'd be pissed for getting it. If I do like it, I'll be pissed as it would be out of my price range to buy on any type of consistent basis .

Not my cup of tea at that price point, so I'd probably be out. You can find it all over secondary for about $200 shipped, so $180 + tax isn't really saving anything. The older bottles might fetch a little more, but I just saw a 2013 go for $250 shipped, so it isn't exactly appreciating in a hurry. That said, it is a good, cask strength release from a strong name that comes in a nice box for presentation (I think there is at least a little to be said about shelf presence). Tall price for a blind taste, though.

You ought to split the cost with a group of friends and drink it together. Our whiskey club is how I've been able to taste a lot of pricey bottles for well under what the bar charges for a pour. 8 people, $25 per person, each gets 2 oversized pours (3+ oz). Just a thought.

I'm mostly with you. I don't like to go above $100 very much, but there are a few exceptions. Some of the Compass Box limited edition stuff is worth it - the whiskey is always at least "good", but usually even better than that. The story behind most of the releases makes for good conversation, too, for whatever that is worth.

That said, Glenmorangie Signet is about $180-200. It is the best whiskey I've ever tried. It takes me a long time to finish a bottle, because I can't drop 2 bills regularly, but I don't want to ever be empty on it, either.

The sweet spot is $30-50. Lots of great whiskey in that range.

I need to find a whiskey club around here. My friends are mostly into beer.

I saw a few Compass Box editions at the store today. The only one in my range was Hedonism, but it was $100. I've heard about them but couldn't pull the trigger until I knew more.

Because its limited, yes I would have. Pricey for sure. But you could always resale it for cost of purchase, or value, or trade it. Its always nice to have something limited in possession and decide to taste it later.

I haven't tried many blends outside the Johnny Walker line up. I like knowing distillery the whiskey came from. I would probably be more interested to try them if I knew what distilleries went into the blends.

    Yeah, I remember when the Yamazaki 12 was $99. Should've bought them all...now they're like 300+ and it's only been 3 years.

Found two bottles that I hadn't tried over thanksgiving. One was a single barrel Buffalo Trace. At $29 it was fairly good but I like Eagle Rare better.

The other was Henry McKenna 10 year old. I recommend this one. It was $32 and we'll worth it. It has a rich oak taste that isn't overbearing that fades into a spice flavor. It tastes better if it breathes a little first. Did I say it is well worth the price?

A friend picked up a bottle of the McKenna at Total Wine. It was pretty good.

Been trying to find a bottle of Buffalo Trace for months now. None to be found anywhere. Local stores say they get 1-2 cases every couple of months and it fly's of the shelf in less than an hour.

So I tried the bulleit cask strength. It just seemed harsh, but without the full bodied flavour I was expecting from a cask str. Pretty disappointed for the price. Elijah Craig cask strength is much better and not much more expensive.

Henry McKenna is some really good stuff. I put it up there with Eagle Rare in terms of bang-for-your-buck and just being a damn fine whiskey.

I haven't had Bulleit's cask strength stuff, yet, but I'm not a huge fan of their bourbon, so I haven't been on the hunt for it, either. Their rye, however, is great.

    Dimple Pinch. Neat.

I never finished that show, gotta go back and watch it again! But Pinch is pretty good, my friend inherited a few bottles and let me try some- it was good stuff. Never tried Dimple.

Its kind of hard to find here too but was out of state and found the single barrel. I don't think Buffalo Trace isn't as good as most all of the other Buffalo Trace products.

I know there Eagle Rare is good. From my understanding it is Buffalo Trace just aged for 10 years.

I’m just a year into drinking Bourbon / Scotch... it’s a nice starter collection. I have had a few bottles of Quiet Man and Monkey Shoulder... both are very tasty 3B3713AA-DA6F-44C3-A9DB-CA1759933042.jpg
