Had this happen to a friend of mine that had a tundra build on here and he contacted the page. They sent him a free lift kit. 400 dollar spacer kit. He’s was already running full Fox’s so he sold it locally for 350. Nice chunk of change for a picture.

 

It's diff oil.

I pulled the skids today. They were a mess. Plus I found about 40 more pounds of Utah on them. When I first saw it, I was hoping it was a loose oil filter but no such luck. The front diff is leaking from both axle seals. But the driver side is spewing it everywhere.

I am not sure but there may be something going on with the bearing on that side too. Just a hint of up-down play and a 1/4" of in-out. The axle move in-out a lot more than I remember it.

 

How long ago were the axles replaced? Did you do new seals?

 

Im with you. However for someone that doesn't do it for a living to expect a lot back from it is silly I think.

This is old news as well, been there for over a year now. Ben could and should say wtf that's mine to them. But I would never expect much back from them. If Ben was paying the bills with photography work, thats a different story.

As a guy that works in the music industry, copyright is a joke in the the media world these days. Which isn't a good thing but its not enforced unless you have the means(large capital) to do it.

And they're a constant source of anxiety for me on the ZX and the cruiser. Already had to fix the cruiser windows twice. I'm trying to see how long I can go in life not owning anything newer than 1999

 

Driver side axle was replace a couple of years ago. The seals are originals so considering the abuse I give them, I should not complain too much I guess.

Yeah, it does. Does a 1/4" of in-out play seem excessive to you?

Didn't say a partner couldn't have something newer, gotta leave yourself a loophole. But personally I don't need any of that crap for my vehicles. I thought about a second gen, almost bought one not too long ago. But it felt like a side step, wouldn't gain me anything I actually need.

This is true haha, is it sad that the 300ZX is by far the most comfotable thing I've owned? The Taco is pretty good too but like most old pickups has seats that could put a Russian gulag to shame

 

I think LROR is just being lazy. Plus they are counting on the owner of the photograph not taking any action, even if they are aware of the abuse.

By comparison, the passenger side is less. Maybe an 1/8" of in-out movement

Yeah, was afraid of that. Now to figure out how to troubleshoot.

I have two axles I am going (to learn how to) rebuild with new boots this winter. I guess now new seals in the diff is added to the list and swap in a rebuilt axle.

 

Hit it with a pressure washer, sometimes dirt stuck in there can cause it to leak. Had the same thing and just cleaned it and then it was fine

 

ECGS does sell a clamshell bushing for the 1st gens. Do you have an ARB in the front? I don't recall, as that would have already replaced it.

Those seals are easy. $10 at a parts shop and a couple minutes. Just don't push them in too far. I've replaced both sides in the last year. Was wondering if the trashed diff mount bushings had anything to do with it, but not sure. Will be replacing those whenever I get around to working on my truck this spring.

 

The seals are original at +180K so not all that suprised. And I do abuse them. Mostly concerned about the amount of play.

Yeah, It does have an ARB locker. Are you thinking a new bushing would have been installed at that time? It wasn't ECGS.

I was out replacing my AC idler today - yeah, the same one I replaced at Alstrom, I think I killed the new one in like a week. Anyway, saw the same as what you're describing, though less oil leaking for now...but oil leaking from both sides of the diff where the CVs enter.

I'm glad to hear the seals are easy. Mine were replaced when I got the new gears and locker last December...so I'm a bit surprised that they'd go so soon. Could my old CVs (original, from 2000) somehow mess up the new seals?
