This is my experience with 17" E rated KO2s in the summer and Blizzaks in the winter. Last car was a diesel and was much quicker off the line; I tend to get my foot into it to duplicate the experience. Lifetime average over 9062 mi is 16.1 mpg (US). (14.6 l/100 km). About 60% city.

I don't think anyone should buy a manual to save gas. You buy one for the experience of driving. "Driving" automatic is like having sex with a condom on.

No, you chose right. I listened to my wife the first go around. Regretted it, since I was the one driving the truck on a daily basis. Got it right the second time though. From here on out, she chooses her vehicle and I choose mine. No vetos allowed.

Every high end sports car only comes in auto these days because there are obvious advantages. I think people mistake getting to use an extra arm and foot with driving excitement. Getting to choose your shift points is obviously still an advantage, but it doesn’t add to or subtract from the driving experience. I would be willing to bet that a driver with an auto would defeat a driver with a manual in a skills course, meaning the actual driving experience is enhanced by auto.

I don’t get that analogy. An automated track bike is supposed to beat Rossi. So would Rossi have a better experience riding on a fully automated bike just because his times are faster? Don’t think so. To me, MORE involvement in driving equates to an enhanced experience, not less.

THAT said, not knocking autos at all. Just thought the logic was ridiculously flawed.

I love the pics of trucks getting 28-30 mpg, but with only 11-30 miles driven. Run it for at least 200 miles then get back to us. I've gotten 36 mpg in my F150 over a short 30 mile run. I've gotten 4 mpg over some other short drives too.

In 2018 manuals offer zero advantages in fuel mileage or anything else. Just because the AT can shift automatically doesn't mean the driver isn't in control. I'm shifting between gears quite a bit with my auto especially in mountains or if loaded/towing. If you enjoy stirring the stick then buy a manual, but there are no advantages.

Except for a trip to Illinois for a funeral in April 2017, my Taco hasn't been out of the DFW Metroplex. 50 miles is about as far as it gets from home. So 150 miles won't heppen.

I have nothing against automatics. I have owned many. However, there is just something visceral about holding a gear until redline or deciding to lug the engine up a slick hill.
I chose a manual this time because I wanted one again, not because it is better or worse. Sometimes it's just fun to snap through the gears. Also, driving 240 miles of interstate today, barring my rest stop, I shifted out of 6th gear exactly once.

Sample size is obviously inadequate and so the results are not surprisingly inaccurate. If your mileage for an entire tank is 20-22 then that's your mileage.

Do You say this as a manual driver guessing about how auto drivers feel about stick driving or is it personal opinion? Your point faltered in the "people" assumptions. I'd be surprised if an auto w/paddle shifting weren't quicker on a track, not so sure about the results without the paddles, though, they wouldn't use them otherwise, a standard auto doesnt maintain proper rpms without them, but that "doesn't add to the driving expeience" is, at least in my case, pure BS. If go-carts had sticks now that would have been some fun! Can you honestly compare one foot on the gas and both hands on the wheel to the complexity shifting adds to cornering? I drove stick for my first 27 years of driving and now that I have one again after 16 with an auto I realize how much I missed it. That rest stop would be the only opprtunity to row during hours of monotony and you can bet I'd notice even that simple pleasure. It may well be the beginning of the end but I for one am glad for the ride.
