Bloody brilliant. Pass closed shortly after we went over, was still clear and much faster still.

Totally understandable, our group was all ready to eat as well. We all made it through before it got shut down, made it right when they switched from traction tires required to chains required.

Best guess is closed just to safely clean up the idiots who spun out onto the shoulder. Last guy in our group stopped to help pull a couple back onto the road once state patrol closed it off so he could safely do so. I passed several vehicles in the ditch when I went through, but didn't want to endanger myself since they were safely off the road and DOT/state patrol weren't far behind me.

I don't travel the pass much in snow; When chains are required, does it literally mean required, or can you go through with 4x?

I believe you are required to have a pair in the vehicle for 4x4's for at least one axle but not required to mount them if your tire's are adequate. WSP has a FAQ that covers it iirc, this is the first time I've gone over when they've had any restrictions on it.

"Tire chains required - except four-wheel/all-wheel drive* (as long as one set of chains is carried inside 4WD/AWD vehicle). *If the vehicle or vehicle and load are more than 10,000 pounds the 4WD/ADW exemption does not apply."

    https://www.wsdot.wa.gov/winter/traction.htm

Just don't ask me about semi chain placement. I have to check their PDF every damn time. :annoyed:

so any recommendations for chains for 33's? also if someone can remind me... we are supposed to put them on back tires only right? This winter in NB the hill on our street turns to ice after all the kids sled on it.

fuckin North Idaho is still like 39 degree's by 1pm. Deer don't seem to be moving. Schweitzer has one run open and I think it's manufactured snow. Abnormal for this time of year. I have one week left here.

You can put them on the front if you want, but they’re useless unless you’re in 4WD. Rears would be ideal IMO.

Les Schwab probably has a set closest to your tire size- but they can be pricey.

    Are floor mats a mod?
So you have to remove starter, take out 1 bolt, turn the motor to the next bolt, remove, repeat?

Don't remember what but I know I've seen that on a couple models. Not to annoying if you have a lift. Annoying if you don't

Don't think they'd work for icons.
Not mine, but similar. The old style top mounts where thinner, and they have a revised style that's quite thicker. Shown top left.

Good thing u didn’t seize or you’d have to drop the motor trans combo out the bottom!

That's what I told Jim. If the motor had seized I'd be taking a torch to it all

Big thanks to @JimSnell today for the good company and help with the ditch light install today. That was a much needed break from moving into a new place!

But seriously, if it seized you'd have to pull the pan and all the main bearing caps, then remove the crank with the tranny. That's a pain in the dick.
