    The ARB replaces the entire carrier and comes with a bushing in it. I would try a different axle before anything.

    How much in-out play are you seeing, particularly on the driver side?

    I knew the ARB replaced the spider gears but did not realize that bushing was also replaced. I still have the axles that came with the truck but they need new boots. I will rebuild them and then reinstall. Thanks for the feedback Brett. Very helpful.

    I am certain they installed new seals. I actually emailed Carl (JT's Parts) since we've traded a ton of mail in the last year so he's always really quick to get back to me. He confirmed they put new ones in and suggested it could be my old CVs (I might be learning a lot about the truck, but I'd never come up with that myself :D), which is why I asked.

    I didn't check play, but just went out and checked. I'd say less than a 1/16" in-out play with the wheels straight and on the ground. Both sides.

    I don't think it's the breather. At least for me, mine's been "working well," which I know because it's been burping up diff oil for the last 6 months. :rofl:

    You have no idea.

    I doubt it is the breather but it definitely could be debris carried by muddy water, as wyo Brett suggested. There were a couple of very deep crossings of creeks that were high because of runoff. It was very muddy water. Some of that debris might have been forced (from water pressure) into the seal/axle shaft area. Lord know there is ugly mud everywhere else on my truck.

    Yeah we got in some deep water this last go around..

    I'll look at Igor tomorrow.

    I know its common with the ARB for the oil to want to burp up more. Though I can't quite remember why that is..

    I can't imagine the axles would cause it. Though your loose one Mike isn't good.

    Brett you're saying the needle bushing is replaced?

    you're also on a OEM diff.

    Something with the ARB does this. Im trying to remember what the reason is and what the solution was..

    I don't know the reason but it wouldn't surprise me if the ARB locker somehow deflects more oil into the breather tube. Since the valve is one-way, the oil then has a hard time flowing back down...which means the next time the diff heats up, it gets pushed out.

    I think the solution is to put a little catch/burper just before the breather.

    However as Brett stated the ARB negates this and has its own bushing. So..no it isn't relevant as both Mike and Dan have ARBs in the front.

    Yes that photo is for a 8'' clamshell but same thing for ours just smaller.


    What is more likely is slightly overfilled and/or water made its way in there from this last trip. Which I wouldn't be that surprised with the shit we crossed.

    If it were me, I think I would just install the new seals, not worrying about the axles yet.

    I mean, I have to pull the CVs to install the seals. Figured I could pull the CVs just to check everything out. Shouldn't be all that hard, I think. Good practice even since I've not done it to my truck.

    Yeah, good idea. Brett - just pressure wash the outside of the CV/Diff joint? Mine already looks pretty clean at this point (from the pics).

    So now, to show my lack of knowledge - is there a seal right there at the joint between the diff/CV? I guess I thought the seal was "further in" towards the diff for some reason... Can you "see" the seal in either of my pics? Is it the gold-ish piece on the driver side (or in that gold piece)?
