Anyone swap the extended cab for a double cab and bed?

Is it just the rear cab and front bed mounts that need to be changed?

I bought a complete Dcab, will pick it up next week so I don't have both trucks in front of me to compare.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Sounds like a lot of work, if the other one's complete, why not drive both?

Dcab is wrecked, and It would be just as much work to swap SC, injectors, Sliders, F&R shocks, beef the motor mounts, AEM FIC, F&R axles, swap 5 speed in.

I haven't seen the truck in person yet but the whole front end needs to be replaced anyway, and most likely the front frame is trashed too.

    ...it's been done

tho' the Dcab n Xcab frames are not the same...
and the body mounts may not align the same
Thought I remember reading something about it
requiring a BM relocation or position change.

I thought I read an "how to" D-cab swap over on TTORA
But I don't remember much about it.

But I do remember it being an extra cab originally
and a double cab body was installed.

So I might presume the Dcab body was fitted to the xcab's frame.

Think it was DesertTaco on TTORA whom did it first.
But Dicker Foster will likely know...
and is still an active user on TTORA (PM there)

    Suppose to be stock
the couple swaps i've seen online they replaced the rear cab and front bed mounts with the double cab ones. should be able to salvage it off your donor truck. One of the guys had a srunner and bought a front damaged double cab so he had used his srunner front clip and grafted from the top of the a pillar and floor so he could keep his srunner vin and title. Always wanted to build one on a mini frame to have a lowered double cab

We should have been able to get those all along....a real, eco box with 4 doors.

I was always jealous of the Rangers from down south like that.

The gas tank and filler neck is different but you will have that with the new one.

The front bed mounts and rear cab mounts will be different but you can order them from Toyota. It will be easier to weld the new ones on. It was a real ^%&%&^%& to grind the old ones off and I could not imagine reusing them.

    20181027_131859.jpg
The reason I know this. I cut the rusted reared of my 99 extended cab off and welded on one from a 2003(?) Double Cab. Excluding the support for the filler neck, front bed mounts and rear cab mounts they where identical. Even the cross members where perfect. I had already used safe-t-caps from that point all the way to the front and made custom pieces from that point to the very front.
I cut out my old frame sides and used them to box the new frame and they fit perfectly.

I tried to order new bed frame mounts from my local dealer but they said it was not possible. I got online and found the part number then the part and had them shipped here in a few days. I wish I had taken more pictures.20181104_221053.jpg

I was hoping that you ended up with an Xtracab short bed.

When I go on a trip I barely have enough room with the 6 foot. water, food, spare parts, tools, gas, tires and camera gear. I never know how long I will be gone.
I learned a lot by doing this one. I want to get a beater and just play with ideas and try some custom stuff out.

It's an odd combo, I doubt anyone will ever want to do it.

What about a short short bed? I would shorten my bed like this before I would ever get a Jeep.

How did the final product turn out? I absolutely love everything about my truck except the lack of rear doors. 5 speed manual, a turbo charged engine and the frame is pristine to boot. I need more room though so I will eventually have to get a 4 door but getting it to the point my truck is at now will be a lot of work and I often contemplate if a body swap is a better solution.

Would you recommend the swap? I’m fairly capable the only thing I really wonder is the cost. No one wants to buy a turbod taco so I’d lose my ass on the sale. This is 2000 Tacoma btw, the model before they even started making 4 doors.
