That explains why it goes up so high then. Better to make it look fugly than drill holes in the pillar.

I think the only way to improve on the snorkel for 2020 is to give the drivers side a matching snout.

I keep wondering if this Tactical Racing Dingus DAI actually looks better in person. Anyone who's had the joy of trying to photograph a 3rd Gen Tacoma, without it ending up looking all wrong, knows the challenge of automotive photography. I’d like to see one in person. Maybe it just doesn’t translate.

Holly crap is that what it looks like? Jesus they designed that to look like shit.

I much prefer the snorkel to go into the fender right away and run along the inside of the fender to the air box, not the outside of the fender.

    IMG_5983.jpg

Plus the way the 3rd gen Pro one is all wavy as it tries to match the curve of the body lines looks like crap...they could've done way better.

I agree. But the way the inner fender/firewall etc is Theres no way to make it enter that close. My custom snorkel is about as close as you can get and still squeeze a intake boot on it

The photo I found and posted translates perfectly. No amount of photoshopping or snapchat filters can fix it. :puke:

That looks good, I think what bothers me most about the Pro one is how it extends all the way up the A pillar and above the roof line...after doing some more reading it seems they did this to mount it to the roof to avoid mounting it to the A-pillar? They could have figured out a way to mount it to the pillar without making it a permanent fixture.

Yours looks normal, especially with the bushwackers, front bumper, steelies, rack, etc. The pro as shipped looks goofy. Maybe after modding up the Pro it’ll look better and blend.

I like it,but I would never need it.:crapstorm:If I could afford a pro it would not bother me it was on there. The thing that bothers me is the dealer taking a hole saw to the side of my truck. I would hope Toyota made a snorkel specific fender and had a stamped hole that was painted. I would think this is done at the factory. They make 3 different hoods don’t they,SR5-OffRoad-Limited, Sport,Pro. I think the hood on the Pro is different than the Sport. I am prolly wrong on all points, just puttin it out there.

On most snorkel install instructions, after cutting the holes you're supposed to hit them with a self etching primer to prevent rust.

Otherwise, a hole is a hole...as they say

Pro and sport hoods are the same... only difference is a body color matched scoop on the sport and a flat black scoop on the pro. Shape wise... identical.

I’ve talked with Toyota engineering. The reason the DAI extends above the roof line is for future upgrades. They were watching CYE and thought the DAI could work as a dual purpose periscope. The periscope kit will be an option on the 2020 pro. DAI for OR driving. Traffic management periscope for city driving.

I feel enlightened now, thanks. I wish the Sport scoop was functional. I bought the Sport for the manual transmission, Access cab problem.

Seems like very few cars/trucks have functional hood scoops any more. I just don't think under hood temps are an issue like they used to be. At least the Tacoma's hood scoop looks like it could be functional, as compared to the ZR2 "scoop" that's obviously not functional .

Hard pass. Unless you are going on an African safari or going to run the Baja 1000, they are just decoration.

I wouldn't get a truck with the intake. More wind noise, more holes cut in the truck, hideous as all hell. Unless you do a lot of dusty-desert driving, you won't see any benefits from it. It won't single-handedly allow you to ford deep water, either. Don't do it.
