I would also like to mention...I hate my manual transmission. I wish the OGT had a dang A340, but I guess then I would have had to deal with the ADD crap. At least I wouldn't have to worry about taking it out so often though.

 

private area or public land? moved here this summer and wanted to hunt just didn't have enough time to read up on the states laws and such.

Price of admission, I guess. I'm dreading the day I have to pull the motor. I know it's coming though. I beat on it pretty hard for a 180k+ mill. I do try to keep it under 5k RPMs though.

Private land up in North Florida. Tons of public places to hunt around me at least (central Florida)

I'm not sure what's good anymore. Green Swamp used to be pretty good for hogs. Unless you're a dog hunter, stay away from Richloam. It's a dog hunting area and those guys are effin' bat shit crazy (hilarious though). Citrus is also a hunting area but it depends on the weekend as to whether it's bow hunting, muzzle-loader, or general gun. Those are the ones I know about.

edit: I long ago realized I'd rather cull the paper herd than the animals, so I got into precision target shooting.

 

I wouldn't mind hog. but really could go for some deer hunting. been a few years since I last went out.

 

Well Todd's yield aside, I've always heard deer hunting in FL is lame. Maybe that's changed, or maybe it just applies to central Florida though.

 

I quit deer hunting 15 years ago after a trip with my cousin who is a Marine Corps sniper. He made it not fun anymore.

 

that's what I was worried about first. most the stuff I was seeing was on private clubs and such. but ive got some time to dig in and look around. or make some good friends. haha

I dunno, I wouldn't bet on that. We both have lousy luck at Hardrock, but if he's not doing repairs, he's making modifications, so he probably works on the Q-tip more than I do the OGT.

Public lands are always going to be over-hunted, which means the deer are going to be smaller (hunters kill them before they have time to grow) and there isn't much for game management on those lands. Private lands, such as the one I am on, have land managers that have biologists come in and do studies to determine what needs to be killed, and what doesn't. Our rules say that it has to be at least 8 points with a rack outside the ears which gives the smaller deer, that would be killed on public lands, time to grow.

Central Florida can produce some good deer (state record was killed in the Pasco County area of the Green Swamp), but they are simply not going to get as big as a more northern state deer. A friend on the same property a week ago where mine were killed, killed a 13 point typical and with a preliminary score of ~160, which would put it in the top 5 ever killed in the state of Florida for a typical deer.

I still chuckle about the trip to citrus when you said “you don’t spend a whole lot of time under your truck do you tim” Nope. Most time I’ve been under my truck was the 63 swap. And putting my sliders on. Other then that I just drive it. Hell I just welded my exhaust hangers back together a few days ago.

 

well alrighty then. sounds like I need to look into clubs and such. really miss Oregon and Alaska hunting.
