So I got gas the other day.... went to close the fuel door and its a MESS. All bent out of alignment and fitment. I didn't understand, but looking closer it looks like the pin in the hinge corroded to the hinge itself and bent it as I opened it!!!

Of course its not screwed on, so I can't take it off to correct... anyone else have this problem?

For the record: 16 with 36xxx miles

Do you live in an area that uses salt on the roads in the winter? That would explain the corrosion. I make it a point to clean the inside of the fuel door when washing.

Might be past warranty mileage already. Not sure if corrosion is covered for 36K?

Common issue on Tacomas. I believe the owner's manual suggests lubricating hinges and latches every 6 months under the maintenance section. I always give the fuel door hinge a shot of Fluid Film a couple times a year on my 2014 Tacoma and it still moves nice and smooth.

You are supposed to lubricate it regularly. Once it started to get harder to open, several weeks ago, you lubricate it. Takes five seconds. I use a dry lock lube but anything is better than nothing. I will use some white lithium grease before it gets too cold.

Mine needed a lube spray after about a year, started getting stiff to open. Definitely want to lube it before it gets too bad

Sorry, I tried to search but I couldn't find anything.... maybe I am not searching right.
It look pretty much like the pics in the other thread... I tried to bend it back, but I can't get it back to were it was... GRRR.
So frustrating. I will definitely lube it from now on...

I wish I would have know about this "issue"... I never once lubed any other fuel door on any vehicle (all toyotas) I have ever had before. :(

It's not an issue, it's a maintenance item. There are lots of maintenance items on this truck. Read up.
