I recently got 17’s with 265/70R17 but I’m already starting to regret it.
It’s not lifted yet but I’m getting it done soon and when I picture it lifted, it seems the tires are gonna look small.

I got the 265’s cause of the number of posts that say a CMC will be a certainty even with a 3” lift.
But recently I have encountered several people with 285’s and a 2.5” lift that say they do not rub and did not need a CMC.

Can we get a roll call of folks who went 285 and did not need CMC?

    Thanks.

Depends on what the offset is. I had 285/70/17s on 17x8.5 0 offset and they didn’t rub at all.

Depends on alignment, backspacing and other factors but most people that say they don’t rub never leave the pavement.

I ran my truck with stock tires for a long time with a 3” lift. It looks fine

Or don’t lift it and do a cmc! That’s what I did and they fit fine only time I rub is on HARD hits.

NO RUB GOING FORWARD, SLIGHT UPPER CONTROLL ARM RUB IN REVERSE AT FULL LOCK, but I can live with it.

Full lock is 1+3/4 turns from center. At 1+1/2 turns from center no contact.

Rubs the edge of the tread block, not the sidewall. Will lessen as tire wears.

Tested at full compression and extension UCA contact about the same.

Slight rub rear lower fender flare with front Suspension fully compressed and turned. Trimmed plastic. No Cab Mount Contact. No rear tire contact.

NOTE: The more you move the wheel out away from UCA, with spacers or more offset wheels, the more contact you will have with other parts, like cab mount.

Yet I have same spec and rubbed like mad.

    Alignment makes a big difference.
And I think these trucks are not consistent at all so there is no way to guarantee what will and will not rub

Meanwhile 285 70 17 duratrac. Not even full lock and had to flatten pinch weld just to turn
    20180314_182435.jpg

That was with 1" of lift though .But even after going to 2" wouldn't make a difference still had to cut and flatten.

I’m running 2” of lift on stock UCAs, with 16x8 0 offset and 285/75, I’ve had cooper stt pros and now another less aggressive hybrid tire. Never have I rubbed the cab mount, I rubbed other places but a heat gun took care of the small amount of plastic I would rub when I had stock front bumper. It’s all in the wheel specs, it’s been wheeled hard, stuffed and up on 3 wheels more than once so if it was going to rub It would have by now. Been running this set up for 40k miles.

I’m going through the same thoughts now as well. I’m ordering tires and wheels tomorrow. I’m getting method MR701 wheels which are a 16x8 0 offset with a 4.5 inch backspacing. I plan to lift mine two inches in the front and 1.5 in the rear to keep my cv angles good and to hopefully not have to do a diff drop (another confusing factor on deciding what to do). I know I can fit 265/75/16 with this setup on stock suspension so I’m not sure how it will be lifted but I don’t know that I want all the headaches that come with 285s on a new truck. Here are some photos of my 2015.... lifted 3 inches in both photos. Top photo is 265s and the second photo is 285s. (My current truck is a 2018 TRD OFF-ROAD DCSB)

I did 5100s on 4th notch, stock coils with 1.5” spacer in the rear. As mentioned above, 285/75/16 stt pros on 16x8 0 offset, 4.5 backspace... zero rub on cab mount, a little heat gun action on front fender liner and a quick snip of a tab on the bumper and I was golden. Go for it!

285/70/17, Camburg UCA's.This truck has 40k on it and it has been all over Pisgah and Uwharrie, no rubbing or trimming . Has been this way since new. Any good upper control arm will help with clearance I'm just a big fan of camburg. I've had a few Tacoma's and they have all had camburg UCA's.
