I hope you don't plan on driving on dry pavement or making tight turns pretty much anywhere other than snow or dry sand. :)

This isn't my first vehicle with a welded diff and I've had Detroits in other vehicles. There are a lot of misconceptions from people who have 0 experience and turning on dry pavement is fine. Parking lots and u turns are not fun because the turning radius at full lock is a little bit bigger; that just means a little bit of patience or thinking ahead. If you'd like to discuss in further detail why I decided not to go with the Detroit I would be happy to continue elsewhere but this thread isn't really the place to discuss that.

    To each his own :)

Amen. I too have my fair amount of time with open, selectable, and spools. For me, the places I like to go (tight woods, granite rocks, etc), selectable makes my life easy and allows me to limit the strain on other components. :)

I will never forget the cul-de-sac I lived in. My friend with his spooled '57 Chevy found the only consistent way for him to be able to drive the radius of the cul-de-sac, was to smoke his tires so that he would get the car pointed in the other direction. :)

    Best wishes.

I don't know if my cluster has a spot for the rear locker indicator but I thought about wiring up a permanent LED in there :)
