I just watch their test reviews of the top 10 or top 5 rated bulbs on the market.

Uhhhh, that sounds familiar. That might be the Escort competition.

I was introduced to radar detection/detectors by a person on the web (now don't laugh) Radar Roy, who's now deceased. But his site lives on.

Let me guess the #1 is the HR GTR 3rd Gen?

The Hikari's are half as much and would definitely give them a run for the money. Before I bought the Hikari's I had considered the GTRs. I was happy I took the cheaper route.

Ahhh, no, when I got into this the GTRs were their golden child. A guy I work with paid a shop near us to put two sets in his Tundra. He paid $500 total LOL.

So far I've done all my lighting mods myself. I recently replaced the tiny T11 bulbs in the side markers of the headlights. I used Hikari bulbs for them. I used the same bulbs in the license plate lights. They cost a buck a piece for 10 on Amazon.

    Before

    20181028_153717.jpg

    After

    20181028_153702.jpg

I tell ya too, you should talk to Brett aka @Parker315

He has been working with a new vendor and I took his recommendation on the front turn signal bulbs. Not cheap at all but holy hell are the bright.

For me, I have one reason to increase, enhance, or add to my lighting. Safety! I want the idiots I have to share the road with to see me no matter what. Since we live in the country and corn and soy farms are prevalent, so are deer, and I want to see them.

So I will spend more for that added safety. I don't mind doing my homework though to ensure I'm getting the most bang for my buck. So I sorta rate lighting a little differently than most people.

I use a scale system. If light A is 20% better than light B but light B is 50% less then I can live with that 20% deficiency. It's a simple system. I'm not a lighting engineer or scientist. That data is great and I will consider it but I prefer to rely on my eyes and what I see too.

So my ace in the hole is Brett. Whatever I don't know about I'm sure he does. He's one hell of a guy and I trust his opinions. Best part is for you, he lives in Texas.

Nice! I remember when they hit the scene. Great reviews then and still holding up to the reputation today. They are supposed to have great road manners. They do well off road in your neck of the woods too. Can't wait to see them on the truck.

The Valentine One is among the best. Usually, "the best" detectors shift among the top model Uniden, Escort, Beltronics, and Valentine One detectors year to year. One year it'll be Escort, Uniden the next, and so on.
