Looking to update my TRD off-road truck with a hundred seventy thousand miles on it. I was planning on going with the Bilstein 6112 but then I fell across the fox 2.0. They seem to be roughly the same price but fox seems to be a better quality shock. Need feedback

I have full 2.0 setup with a wheeler's 3-leaf in the rear and have no regrets. Ride is great on and off-road. I'm mostly a forest road/light trail/non-rock crawling guy at the moment but this setup does everything I need and expect it to. Here's two goo threads for more feedback...

(Most of these folks seem to have mostly 2.5 setups but can find good info in general here)

(This is a pure 2.0 setup thread...also good info here and helped me pull the trigger last year)

Yes sir, no overload. I only wanted about 1.5-2" max all around to save wear and tear but still get what I needed out of a lift. I think with an empty bed I got about just about 1.5" in the rear and similar in the front. Adjusted my DS coilover UP on the collar a few turns after things settled and now I'm pretty even across the front (maybe .5" or less lower on DS still). Fairly close to factory rake...with weight in the bed or easy towing I'm pretty level.

cool thanks for the tip. Do you get the standard struts for the rear or did you go with the bypass

Went with the non adjustable reservoir shocks. Don't see the need for that for my use...reservoirs are even a stretch too

Love my fox 2.0's, only bad thing I can say about them is the spring coil is rusting through a bit. 2 years old.

I’m thinking of the 2.0s all around myself with the icon progressiv AALe in the rear.. Just got off the phone with Ryan at Accutune. He recommended the 2.5s up front and the 2.0RR for the rear. Said they are easier tuned for my purposes. But that’s a big jump in $$. And for my needs I’m not sure i need 2.5s. 98% of my driving will be in streets. Occasionally on a trail or two but I’m not going to push it. It’s a 2wd truck and I’m just looking to improve the ride. Any more feedback on street ride?? (currently have spacers and a block).

I was in the same boat but I went 2.0's for two reasons. I did call fox ahead of time and they said the street ride between the 2.0 and 2.5 is the same. That addressed my main concerns. I too only run fire roads, etc.

    1. They're aluminum and that should prolong their longevity given I live in the north east.

    2. I have no need for the increased oil capacity of the 2.5's. I may not have the best understanding of suspension but Increased oil capacity is for increased cooling capability. I don't run hard or fast enough to experience shock fading, or at least I haven't until this point. If it's like 100 degrees in the summer you can feel they're a little softer but not much, during the winter which is really when I run it they don't fade the slightest.

Definitely rides like a cloud compared to stock, If your running 60 down the highway and hit a hump in the road you literally get that cloud feeling. For the price i'm happy. I still have the stock TSB rear leafs. No sway bar since i've installed the Fox's. I was going to keep it but the coil was hitting it so I either needed the spacer or to remove it, i tried removing it and I like the ride alot better.

I debated the Billsteins but I know someone who has them and they felt like alot stiffer ride that what I have currently.

Thanks for the input. But this is the First time I’ve me heard about the 2.0s hitting the sway bar..

I had read they wouldn't but i'm here to say that they indeed did, knocked the coating right off the coil (only on the passenger side). I was surprised and I didn't have time to wait for the spacer so I just took the whole sway bar off. It's been off since, only time it's an issue is when I'm fully loaded down cargo for a trip or vacation. Still feels safe but you can tell it's not on.

    Lots of sail boat fuel
Probably the swaybar relocation kit. I know the 2.5s. Have them.

Huh.. ok did it matter if your wheels were at full turn or just in the droop?

It was when the suspension would cycle, as in when the lower control arm came up and compressed the shock you could hear the "POP" when the coil slightly rubbed the sway bar. Again, not excessive but enough to hear and upon inspection I could see the rubber coating rubbed off the coil (only one coil).

It could have been on the droop and not compression, I can't remember now it was two years ago.

Gotcha.. I’ll look into the relocation kit.. is there more noticeable body roll with it out?

It's great when the truck is empty, no body roll at all except something like going around a corner onramp to get on the highway. Fully loaded with gear you can feel the shimmy. Again, I never felt unsafe.

As far as how it rides it's night and day, no where near as stiff. Lets the front end work independently.

I have absolutely no rub and I kept my sway bar. No corrosion issues at all except for the hardware (expected for obvious reasons) and I had them on all last winter without getting my truck undercoated. Got coated this year and hit the shocks and COs for good measure.

Ok.. good to know.. how much lift did you get all all around? You like the wheelers aal? I’m in between the 2.0 or 2.5 up front and an icon aal.. or perhaps the whole leaf pack.. decision decisions $$$

Got around 1.5-2" give or take all around. I like how everything feels and rides overall having the 3-leaf AAL. Honestly at this point I didn't want to go over 2" right now so this setup is perfect. Down the road if the leaf pack goes to shit or I want to simply upgrade I'm planning to do the Icon RXT pack or Wheeler's 8-leaf pack.
