    Hey everyone!

Just wanted to introduce myself and say reading your threads is incredibly informative as I look into the overlanding life.

My wife and I are frequent campers -- car camping with our lil' sedan, through hiking / overnight camping in sequoia / inyo / etc, and other such fun. We've been reading a lot about upgrading the experience to have more fun adventures on this side of the Rockies (west coast) and we went into a bunch of rabbit holes:
    • Class B or C RV's
    • Some SUV / crossover with a teardrop in tow
    • JKU with an Ursa Minor camper
    • 4Runner with a platform bed and drawers underneath
    • Tacoma with a shell and RTT
    • etc
After lots of hemming and hawing, we think we want to go the Tacoma or 4Runner route.

Our end goal is to practice with a lot of overnights on the west coast and then eventually do a much bigger trip. Ideally Los Angeles -> Florida -> Montreal -> Prudhoe Bay and then follow the Pan American all the way to Ushuaia, Argentina (other than the whole Darien piece, of course). We'd probably head back up the east coast of SA to see Uruguay, Paraguay, and Brazil on our way back home to the states. This could easily be a 40k mile trip over 6-12 months, which we'd like to plan for in 2020.

This gives us time to get a rig, modify it to our liking, practice in different environments, try our hand at recovery in safer spots, etc. We're open to a stock rig that we mod ourselves, an already modded rig that will just do the job from day 1, or something inbetween. Wish us luck!
