On this note, got a blow out rolling 80 on Wednesday just after coming through Meridian, MS.
Big chunk of my inside sidewall chewed out. Just had filled up at the Pilot gas station and must of rolled over something in there or around there.
    Big pucker....

I’m extremely impressed with your trails fix.

This is the type of shit that makes me want to put together a trail welding kit.

The driver had a fairly detailed Facebook post about it.. Essentially he was couple switchbacks further up, slid, and rolled a few hundred feet (being ejected in the process).
I still don't get it, I've driven that trail multiple times in my old '85 Toyota and (unless it's changed a LOT) that stretch is REALLY easy once you get over how far you'll roll if you mess up.

    Thanks

A welder wouldn't have done any good the metal band was gone when my buddy noticed the tire was moving funny

I really didn't have a choice but to keep going or leave with my buddy to get parts and come back the next day. We were in the middle of the 12 hour trail. I didn't want to make him drive it twice so I figured I would get it as far as I could.

I'm glad I didn't stop. This was on a Thursday. I went to the 2 part stores in Moab the next morning and neither one could get a stock UCA until Tuesday. I had to be at work Monday. I had another Light racing UCA at home so we had it overnighted to a Fedex right across from the hotel we had already booked and continued our trip and to Flagstaff AZ to see the Grand Canyon the next day

I added another ratchet strap for safety and the 6 hour trip to Flagstaff took 10 hours. I drove really slow and stopped to check it every 20 mins

Many miles from help. About 12’ down into that ditch. Most likely my truck would have become a snowmobile jump until next summer had we not had a winch and a tree up on the hill to use as a pivot point. I got lucky.

Pic doesn't do it justice but essentially my entire driver side is inches from the side of the ditch. Could have kissed the ground out the driver window; my sliders paid for themselves that day. Ended up not being able to get the back tire up and over the rock & had <30mins to back out the trail and get out of the park before it closed. More time would have made it but with 5 Tacos behind me there wasn't enough time without incurring fees.

2 vehicles ago.. Photo taken after the initial pucker was over..
I broke my own rule about checking a water crossing before driving across (and about wheeling alone, and about putting your primary vehicle at risk.....)
This water hole, out on the 4x4 beaches in the Outer Banks NC was WAY deeper than the previous 3 or 4.. I had water above the bottom of the side windows by about an inch and covering the hood (and coming up over the windshield).. Once it got that deep, I just gunned it and it drove to where you see it in this picture before it died.
Pulled the spark plugs and used a rag to sop-up the water standing in the throttle body, then cranked it over and watched little geysers shoot out of the cylinders.
After that it started, so I limped it back to the beach house (running like crap), opened the hood and left it that way to dry overnight. The next day I caught a ride into town and bought all new fluids for it and changed them all.
By the next day it was running well enough to drive the family the 9+ hours back home from vacation. Once home I changed all the fluids again, then drove it for another couple of years :)

Yeah, I got REALLY lucky I didn't bend a rod and kill the engine. Had I not known I was almost out of the water I'd have just killed it, however, driving it out meant no water got into the cabin so none of the internal electronics got wet.
LOL, was just skimming through the thread of you drowning yours, what a nightmare.
Years ago, I drowned my old 85 Toyota doing a river crossing in Colorado, felt the front end floating and then it went under (not as bad as yours). I killed the engine and had to be dragged out after the interior flooded. Only damage once I dried it out was the clutch springs that snapped (I'm guessing when the hot clutch met icy mountain water).
