Is that to light up the moon when it's not bright enough?

I've heard good things about those strobes. Ive been wanting to play around with HSS also. Have the gear to do it just haven't ever tried it. I really love the effect you get off of a huge softbox and the 7' parabolic umbrella is awesome! Few other things to consider there. lol

I have a Flashpoint 320M 150ws strobe and to be honest my next one will be in the 600ws range.

I think you should start a thread on strobes :anonymous:

One of these days I will build a run and gun with a strobe. And of course a better beamer type flash extender. And would also like to play around with HSS. One of these days.

Depends on how you set them up. Can be a harsh edgy light to a really soft light depending on the size of the modifier you use. You can use colored gels to add colors from different directions. Blast it onto a white background and just blow out the background. Add a dash of light onto someone's hair or behind them to make them stand out. Stop motion like the example below. All kinds of cool stuff.

I think you should buy some stuff and jump in to get it started back up. I'm sure you already have a camera mount flash. o_O

And a stand for it, I have used it in slave mode for freezing action.

But really need another one to totally freeze hummers. Do use it on camera for details and highlights but a better beamer would be better.

And low light conditions in general.

They're both basically the same thing. Some have more features than others. Some work on batteries and some plug into the wall. Just a matter of what you're trying to accomplish what you will use and how much portability you need.

Shooting Pentax, and they have to be different from everyone else LOL. Radio triggers and a pair of strobes are on my short list however, currently just using on board flash as a trigger for the slave.

It was this thread that got me into flash\strobes several years ago. Another good resource for learning about lighting is the Strobist blog, that is what many on here pointed me to several years ago. And start with Lighting 101. It was written in 2011 so some of the gear has changed but the basics have not.
