If that's what you wanna take from me saying that, sure lol. I'm just saying that the actual timing criteria should be omitted. Heck, don't have rankings until after Conference Championship week and look at the teams on a whole instead of week by week basis. Teams ranked lower getting punished for losing to a higher ranked team is a tough thing to argue. On one side, you have a team that lost that was technically suppose to lose and they drop a few spots. On the flip side of that, anyone can lose at any given time and if the lower ranked team wins, (most of the time) the higher ranked team was over rated and never deserved to be that high. I don't see a way they will get away from dropping teams after losses regardless of who beats them.

 

I dont think you can go without week to week rankings. Then who is to say that one teams undefeated season is any better than the others? I think you should always be punished for a loss, to some extent. Never rewarded.

 

Yup, was at both... many terrible memories, although the first half of each is a little blurry.

Bama loses to UGA, surely they stay in the top 4 somewhere, no?
or
UGA loses to Bama, Buckeyes win does the committee bump them into the field of 4?

 

I think if Bama loses and Oklahoma wins...then Bama is out. If Oklahoma loses that's a different story I think they keep Bama in then.

If Georgia loses then both Oklahoma and Ohio State jump them i believe. But Ohio state doesnt jump Oklahoma without Oklahoma losing.

I think the only way Bama is out at this point is if they get blown out by UGA. Obviously if they win they're in, but even if they take their first loss of the season in the last game, I wouldn't put it past the committee to keep them in the playoff. I heard somebody smarter than me - and who is NOT an Alabama fan or grad - make the case and he convinced me (though, I may have gone into it biased). It involved Oklahoma's defense being complete garbage and tOSU's embarrassing loss to Purdue.

I don't think any of this speculation will matter because I think Alabama wins by two touchdowns on Saturday, but given that Bama made it without even winning the West last year, I wouldn't be surprised.

Yeah I mean I see that happening too, but in that case the committee needs to change their criteria and stop saying conference championships matter. End of story.

They've screwed up HOW they chose once already they dont need to do it again.

hard to argue against it though, since they are one of the last few 1 loss teams, and beat a high ranked Michigan whose only loss was to #3 in the country.

it's hard to differentiate opinion vs. polls/stats. this committee was supposedly put in place to pick the 4 best teams, but somehow their selection criteria is opinion based on stats and polls.

opinions are not the same as stats.

ex. I think Ohio State is trash, but stats/record/etc say they are one of the top 10 at least.

this selection committee can only get it right for some folks opinions, since they are choosing based on opinions of stats/records/etc. that's why I think every other sport ever in the history of sports has a better playoff/postseason setup than NCAAF.

 

What's funny is they are still using the BCS computer rankings as part of their decision making.

 

I hate to be this guy though but the "eye test" doesn't pass. Barely beating a terrible Nebraska and Maryland team ought to be taken into account.

A one loss Alabama with their cupcake schedule doesn’t auto bid in over Oklahoma or Ohio State. I’d be shocked if they got in with a loss in the SEC title game.

 

exactly. they can't possibly have a playoff selection system based on "opinions" alone. which is why the playoff needs expanded..
