    I don't know if this would work but it would be easy to try. Take the belt off the power steering pump, and with the engine off, use an air rachet to turn the power steering pump. See if the sound is similar, and if it quits after running it a while.

    a drill would be better as it would be quieter. Not sure that will work though really..

    I don't know if you could get a drill in there without removing the radiator. But yea, something quieter would be better.

    I thought of this because I used an air ratchet to turn the pump when I flushed my power steering fluid. It was much easier to control than running the engine.

    Local member is selling two OEM CVs that I was goin to pick up. One has a ripped boot, what is the best boot replacement? I was just going to put new boots on them both and use them as trail spares. Anything these I should do with them?

    You can buy the oem boot kits online from Toyota. inner or outer or both. the kit comes with grease and clamps and the boot. I would go with that and do the boot slide mod while youre at it.

    Skip the bloot slide mod and get some bigger boots from CJV or just some Porsche 930 boots.

    How does that saying go? "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, ..."

    If you've been a reader of previous trip reports, you may recall one of the craziest trips to date - The De-Tour - which occurred almost exactly one year ago (but that just finished writing up and posting). That trip was a great one for many reasons, but it had gone nothing like we'd expected - snowing or raining every day - eventually forcing us to abandon our Tour of Montana and Wyoming for what we hoped were clearer skies, in Utah.

    ...where it also rained on us.

    Even so, it wasn't long before we started talking about "next year." And before long, "next year" was now...


    Read all of chapter 1, and get ready for a trip even more awesome than the last!

    it's where you loosen/remove the clamp at the end of the boot and slide the boot down a little bit, then re-clamp it. At least I think that's how it works, I haven't done it myself. It makes it so that the fins aren't so close to each other and less likely to rub

    Its where you take off the inner clamps and strecth the boot out along the axle to keep the fins from rubbing. Really just ends up making it worse. Just get a better boot to begin with.

    Just hope you're not like me. Couldn't figure out the rattle, open up the door and the right side of window guide was MIA. Used to be welded in and I guess it broke and the previous owner just removed it so the window only had one guide when it was all of the way down. Thankfully the rubber was still intact.

    So, went to Lowe's got a piece of U shaped aluminum stock that fit the size of the rubber insert(can't remember what size). Lined it up inside the door and used a stock hole and a hole from the broken weld to bolt in the U stock.

    Never had the problem since.
