So now we are putting timely loses under getting blown out by an unranked team but that's negated because it was early in the season and that doesn't matter?

I don't care if it was Bama, Clemson, or even POS Notre Dame(if they would actually join a conference). A 1 loss team to a top 4 team regardless of when that loss comes deserves to be in before a 1 loss (blowout) team to a barely bowl eligible team regardless of when it was. PERIOD.

 

Its funny that this can be said about people hating on Bama but they have their "blinders" on.

 

Well that's just silly... By that logic only 1 team in each conference could be a top 4 team. Which doesnt happen more often than not. If bama lost to Georgia would anyone really argue that tosu or ND or OK was better? And this is an actual scenario the hypothetical possibilities would be exponentially worse... The 4 best teams in the country could be all in the same conference

 

Nobody is saying they aren't better, even after a loss, but the Playoff is a chance at #1. You just proved you can't beat 1 team that's in the running, so why do you get a second chance? The Playoffs isn't to choose teams 1 and 2. It's to choose team #1, the champion.

According to your logic, again, LSU gets to claim the 2011 Natty over Bama because the loss was to a top 2 team, and timing of a loss doesn't matter. They went 1-1, but LSU was better.

 

Here is another thing. Can you imagine the blasting Bama would have gotten had they gotten blown out by say Arkansas? Matter of fact, had that happened Bama wouldn't even be in the conversation at all, much less being talked about being in the playoffs.

 

I really do wish conferences were fluid, teams placed in them based on previous one to three year's performance. Bottom three of the top tier conference replaced with top three of next conference down. Then they'd all have to play each other and we'd have a true feel of each team's performance, thus true rankings.

Not a chance in hell. Hell, you are saying they don't deserve to be in the conversation at all if they lost to UGA who is 11-1 and a top 4 team. Immediately contradicting your statements above.

The playoff should be six teams
1 and 2 gets byes to the semis. 3 plays 6, 4 plays 5. The winners play the 1 and 2 in the semis. I don’t think there needs to be a 8 team playoff.

But on what unbiased grounds are 1 and 2 decided and why do they get a week off because something says they are better than the other top teams by and indeterminate factor? 8 teams would ad no more games than 6 except for no one getting a bye week. 8 teams should get all CG and a possible undefeated d1aa or whatever non d1 is called now. And it would allow the top 1 loss teams a chance which are honestly deserving of at least that most of the time.

I just can't understand the logic of "we just lost, we get another shot". I can't.

Yes Ohio State lost to Purdue, and they paid a punishment for that by dropping in the rankings, but guess what...they kept winning and came back. That's how college football works. That's why November/December are so important to win your games. That's why for YEARS/DECADES losing your first game hasn't been that big of a deal, you can bounce back. Sure #'s 2,3 and 4 might not be better than #5 by eye test, or even 9 times out of 10 on the field, but you just had your chance, you lost, you don't get another one.
