just did a rough average of total defense ranking. from this site, based on total yards: http://www.cfbstats.com/2018/leader/national/team/defense/split01/category10/sort01.html

Alabama average defense faced: rank 63, not accounting for The Citadel.
Ohio State average defense faced: rank 59, accounting for all teams - did not play non FBS.

Georgia would be the 2nd highest defense Alabama faces (MSU is 3rd) and Michigan is #1, who Ohio State slammed. The next highest Bama faced? LSU at 31. Ohio State has 2 additional teams ranked higher than LSU in total defense.

where does ESPN get their SOS rankings from?

 

I do find it funny that Bama fans are offended at the though of OSU getting in over them if they lose....when it's really going to be Oklahoma that gets in.

I still think it'll be Bama, Clemson, Notre Dame, Oklahoma.

so the committee uses conference championships, strength of schedule, and head to head comparisons on teams with similar records.

so say Alabama, Oklahoma, Ohio State all end up 12-1. equal records so we move to the criteria.

conference champs: Oklahoma and OSU yes, Alabama no.
Strength of schedule: this one varies website to website. per ESPN Alabama-58 Oklahoma-34 OSU-48
head-to-head: none of the 3 played each other, nor played common opponents.

so per committee criteria....how tf would you select Alabama over the other 2?

 

also, Strength of Schedule and Strength of Record are different. folks tend to forget that.

If you're simply looking for the best 4 based off opinion/eye test whatever...then tell me that.

If you're looking for the best 4 based off those criteria, then you need to follow that. Last year...they did not.

So this morning, Herbstreit said even with a close loss to Bama, UGA deserves to be in over OU and OSU, because they play alabama...not northwestern or Texas.

I know, that won’t happen...and shouldn’t. But, if you lose to an unranked team, let alone get BLOWN OUT, you should be DQ’d from the playoffs.


Also saw that UGA would be favored over both OU and OSU on a neutral field, according to Vegas.

Mine started a football team 3 years ago. And now they’re #2 in the nation in FCS
