Changed my rear diff fluid for the first time tonight (41xxx), I know, I know. But that stuff that was in there was pretty foul!! GAG! I put Mobil 1 75w-90 in there so I should be good to go baby!
Anyway, I am glad there is a magnet on the plug because I noticed some weird stuff on it aside from the few normal metal shavings that have been hanging out since day 1. there was some nasty, thick stuff on the mag as well. Does anyone know what that crap is?

Was it a dark grey paste looking stuff?

Thats just fine metal particles. Its normal to see alot of it at the first change. The next time you change it, there wont be as much.

IIRC, the 15K mile change is when towing, hauling etc. If you dont tow or haul alot/often, you should be good changing it at 30k
