Ya, until you actual lay the stripes it seems like a logical route. And my outr grill was chrome when I started. The hood lines do lead into the black insert and not theentire grill. And with any of the factory bumpers, the inserts actually line up with the hood lines and not the grill so staying on them gives better symmetry. I know I didn't think about it until the tape came out...

    Did you make that yourself??
I'm thinking about going that route.

This is what mine looks like after i diped it last. And what it looks like frome the drivers seat. It definitely helps to cut the glare down. 20170416_121740.jpg 20180204_160944.jpg

My hood showed up today, went to some body shops and they quoted $600... Figured I would just have a learning experience and do it myself. Gonna go get a gun, some automotive paint, and a few other goodies and see how it turns out.

I've wanted to do this but I feel when the whole hood is black, it looks like a salvaged part.
I wanted to do something like this but on our 1st gens

Maybe I’ll try that? Just hard to get perfect lines. I guess I could just tape off on lines on the hood.

Not my Tacoma but I did paint the bonnet on my 3rd gen 4runner before I swapped the hood for a scooped one.

Well, sorry it took so long.... Finally finished my hood up. It's pretty cold where I am, so I had to do one color every weekend, then let it cure. Then finally I cleared the bottom side and its all done. I think it looks decent for my first non rattle can paint job... Overall it cost around $200+ the new hood. Paint was $75, guns were $75, and then there was other little odds and ends I needed...

I really like the partial hood paint job.

Thanks =) I didn't want to paint it fully black because it would look salvaged or primered

It's been a year and the PlastiDip almost looks like new. The washer fluid has stained it a bit. The obvious stripes from when I painted it aren't as obvious anymore.

I do want to say that last week was right before the winter solstice, and I was driving with the sun just above the treeline, directly ahead. The sun was glaring off of the PlastiDip bad enough that surprisingly I had to hold my hand up to block the light. I wish I could have gotten a foto to show how bad it was. So either the matte texture of the PlastiDip in insufficient to prevent glare, or my expectations are too high. I've considered peeling up the PlastiDip and using matte black vinyl, but I have a hard time believing vinyl would not be shinier than PlastiDip.

I can’t unfortunately, it’s sold. But I just basically followed the raised portion of the hood

    Tasteful modifications :)
Bought my truck like this, I’m not sure why but I can’t imagine looking at my truck without 1/3 of the hood bedlinered now.
